John?

I saw in the latest top baby names that John is number 100. I am suprised it is this high actually as I thought no one called their child John anymore. It has gotten me thinking about it actually and whether it could be a possible name for DS2. My father's middle name is John and he is known as John as his first name is the same as his father's name (whose middle name was also John).

I like the simplicity of it and the fact it is not at all popular. Plus I like the nickname Johnny. Is it too middle age though?

It's a great name - classic, understated and underused.

Thanks. Should also add DS1 is George.

I think it's absolutely beautiful. Strong, classic, and though it's very well known there probably won't be another in his class.

George and John! You have BRILLIANT taste.

John is a lovely name and should be a definite for you as it goes so well with George and is also a family name.

I like John and Johnny but though it is currently experiencing a dip in popularity in the UK you may want to bear in mind it is still the most popular boy's name of all time in the Western world.

Love it. Johnny is great for a little one too.

ColourMeWithChaos · 15/08/2012 12:20

John is lovely! (there's a reason some names are popular)

Johnny/Jack are both nn options and John is an ageless name - will suit someone from birth to grave.

My husband was called John, and hated it, as he reckons every othr boy was called John. He has called himself Shaun (the Irish version) for twenty years now.

I have a Jonathan known as Jon. He likes his name.

My ds is a John , I haven't come across another yet. I love it Smile

DS2 is Johnny, it suits him!

accidentalchickenkeeper · 15/08/2012 13:13

My ds2 is called John.
It was my dads middle name and is my fils first name.
It didn't suit him as a baby and took a while to get used to but he's 4 now and I can't imagine him being called anything else.

Be prepared for some Hmm faces though when you tell people his name.

strugglingwiththepreteenbit · 15/08/2012 13:16

It's a lovely name, has been the "after great grandfather" middle name we've wanted for a son for over a decade.

BellaOfTheBalls · 15/08/2012 13:18

My 19 yo brother is John, known as Johnny. He suits it!
