Which is a better boys name and why? This is our short list for the moment and we each have a different favourite. DS1tobe was due 6 days ago so we really need to be making decisions....

They are both fab :) What are your middle & last names? That is an easier way of seeing which has the best 'flow' overall

MrGeresHamster · 15/08/2012 07:45

Middle name will be Paul, surname begins with H two syllables...

Then despite the fact that Seth was ours boys name for DD2, I would go with Ellis... Ellis Paul H...-... sounds just that bit nicer!

Phaedra11 · 15/08/2012 08:17

I love the name Seth. It was one I considered for both my DSs but DH didn't agree! I think it has a lovely sound (as long as you don't have a lisp) and is a perfect combination of being traditional and unusual without being too traditional or unusual.

I do also agree with Dharma that you need to think about how it will go with his other names though. Ellis Paul flows better than Seth Paul.

Bunbaker · 15/08/2012 08:22

The only Ellis I know is a girl, so I would have difficulty coming to terms with it being a boy's name.

Polkadotfanatic · 15/08/2012 08:27

Seth is my very favourite boy's name....but Ellis Paul flows better.

Addressing what Bunbaker said, I think Ellis is more well known as a boy's name than a girl's name...that said, I know of three female Elliott's.... :)

Good luck

I heard someone recently calling their son who was an Ellis and i thought that it would be a possibility if i have a ds - i really like it.

Dogsmom · 15/08/2012 08:38

I prefer Seth, I have only heard Ellis as a surname and assume it'd be shortened to Ellie or El, whereas Seth can't be shortened.

BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 15/08/2012 08:40

Like others, I prefer Seth as a standalone name, but Ellis Paul H...... sounds better.

MrGeresHamster · 15/08/2012 08:41

Thank you all so far! You're right about the sound of Ellis Paul, I think we'd missed that as we've said them both so many times...

Ellis is a family name, there are many males in my past welsh family who had this name, I've never known it as a girls name (but I can see it would fit). Definately boys name in my head.

Ooooh, Ellis!! My DS's name. Grin Had never, ever heard of it before we named my DS but i've heard it a few times now (all boys). Everyone tells us it's a fab name.

I like Seth too though.

Littlecherublegs · 15/08/2012 09:49

Definitely Ellis - lovely!

Congrats!! Smile

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 15/08/2012 09:59

Seth. Ellis sounds like a surname.

JennerOSity · 15/08/2012 10:03

I prefer Seth, the difference between Seth Paul or Ellis Paul is minute and rarely do you ever say the two names together in practice - more likely to see it written down iyswim. Seth makes me think of a strong, confident boy, Ellis less so. Both nice though. Agree Ellis is a little surnamey. :)

CanoeSlalom · 15/08/2012 10:29

Seth

WithACherryOnTop · 15/08/2012 11:54

Seth is gorgeous.

Ellis is horrid imho.

Arabellasmella · 15/08/2012 16:43

Seth. It is a stronger name.

DaisyBD · 15/08/2012 16:47

Seth Paul sounds to my ears like Cess Pool. Ellis is a v cool name and it's more unusual, there seem to be 100s of Seths around at the moment.

usualsuspect · 15/08/2012 16:47

Ellis, I'm not keen on Seth.

100s of Seth's - really! I don't know a single one. But maybe I need to get out more. Grin I do actually! I am so sick of these 4 walls - but that is a whole other thread. :)

DaisyBD · 15/08/2012 16:55

Well, by 100s I mean I know four actual Seths. But there seem to be a lot of threads about Seth. I only know one Ellis (and he's 19).

OlympickingMyNose · 15/08/2012 16:58

I have a ds Ellis Paul! Spooky!
