Do you like the name? Or maybe not?

Thanks a lot!

Nina: would be grateful for any associations you have...

Happy to be the first to reply - one of my best friends is a Nina, she's very lovely and therefore any associations I have with the name are positive.

Not commonly used. Short and sweet. Nobody (well, I am sure there will be the odd one or two) will ever spell it wrong.

And Nina likes her name too!

5madthings · 14/08/2012 12:58

my dp wanted our dd to be called nina, its a nice enough name but i have 4 boys and it would just be nee naaaaaaw like emergency vehicles and there is the prog nina and neurons and i couldnt not think of that, sorry!

i do know one little girl called nina, well she is 7 now and lovely :)

BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 14/08/2012 12:58

We considered it when expecting DC1 as our first dance when we got married was Nina Simone - 'My Baby Just Cares for Me'. I quite like it, but probably wouldn't have thought of it if it hadn't been for that association.

FelicitywasSarca · 14/08/2012 13:01

I like it. Simple and sweet without being sickly.

MrClaypole · 14/08/2012 13:03

Love this name, would have been DS2's name if he was a girl.

A strong and unusual name. I really dislike flowery "girly" names so it is perfect for me!

RubyFakeNails · 14/08/2012 13:04

It always makes me think of Neneh Cherry. Who I love. Its an ok name, quite old in that I tend to think it suits someone older rather than children but its nice enough.

Dillydollydaydream · 14/08/2012 13:14

I have a lovely friend called Nina so I think it's a lovely name. I can't use it as itd be a bit strange calling my dc after my friend.

HiHowAreYou · 14/08/2012 14:28

One of my favourite names.

TenthMuse · 14/08/2012 14:33

It's pretty. A bit 'ballerina-ish' (think it's the name of the heroine in Black Swan, although that's probably not the best association!) but not too frilly. Easy to say, spell etc.

RillaBlythe · 14/08/2012 15:36

My DD is Nina. We love it.

BetterOnACamel · 14/08/2012 15:39

I have a friend named Nina - she is adventurous, sorted and great company. And I adore Nina Simone. All good :)

Nagoo · 14/08/2012 15:40

Nina and The Neurons.

Nothing wrong with that, I like that woman, girls in science = good thing :)

MamaGeekChic · 14/08/2012 15:42

I loved it for DD but 'nina and the neurons' put me off, DP didn't like it either and everytime I brought it up he did the neenaw noise said something along the line of 'I'm nina poo' (I'm needing a poo) mature

MissTapestry · 14/08/2012 15:43

I like it, but when I suggested it to DP he said it made him think of that 'Saturday night' song. Nina-na-na-na! Do do do do do etc etc Grin

Aworryingtrend · 14/08/2012 16:41

This is on our shortlist but I too am worried about the 'nee-naw' siren associations and apparently there is an old joke about naming the baby after where she was conceived- ie in the back of a police van!

I love it but everyone just seems to make an Hmm face.

adaloveslace · 14/08/2012 17:47

I love it. I considered it strongly for DD, though DH wasn't sold. I think it's strong, simple and romantic in a wartime Russia kind of way.

threefeethighandrising · 14/08/2012 22:32

Make me think of Nina Simone, a great connection :)

Great name!

CanoeSlalom · 14/08/2012 23:24

I like it :)

GiuliaRossi · 14/08/2012 23:26

Lovely name.

TerraNotSoFirma · 14/08/2012 23:36

This would have been DS's name if he had been a DD :)
Fabulous name.

GiuliaRossi · 15/08/2012 01:06

I would have been Adrian, apparently

MrsHuxtable · 15/08/2012 08:17

Love it!
Sweet, not overused.
Have a friend called this so positive association. Loads of then in Germany in my (late 20s) generation.

0lympia · 15/08/2012 20:42

I love it. The name wasn't too girly for Nina Carberry!
