Strong name for a girl - PLEASE HELP, EXHAUSTED LISTS!

Hi all - driving myself and DH crazy. We've exhausted our baby names list and cannot find a girl's name we like.

The problem is our surname - most people seem to think of it as the royal surname... so without saying it, I think you can probs guess what I mean. Get asked if people should curtsy when they meet us which is SO FUNNY.

Which means every name I have liked, everyone has said is too pretentious. I like traditional, strong names though love Ivy and Madeleine but apparently, these are not nice.

Everyone's driving me crazy and whilst I know I can't let other people decide for me, I don't want people to hear DD's name and think we're pretentious twats.

Though am close to fucking everyone off and calling DD Elizabeth Mary Anne Blah Blah Every Royal Name You've Ever Heard Of, just because I'm sick of it ha!

Heeeelp!

I like Marnie or Melita. Had boys though so no chance to use them!

OhTheConfusion · 13/08/2012 20:57

Well Elizabeth Mary Anne Blah Blah does have a certain ring to it ;-)
Madeline is lovely too.

I also like Matilda, Sophia, Alice and Helena.

Frikadellen · 13/08/2012 20:57

Seriously just go with what ever name you like even if it is Elizabeth as honestly people will get past it and just see your dd ds as this.

Dont get to concerned about the surname when it is this name we are looking at. (its not like ending up with weird names like A Ball/A Church)

Alissa is nice! I like Catherine, Victoria (went off this because of Vicky, Vic), Isla...

brain dead! Can't remember any more!

I think that is a good strong girl's name. It would be on my list but we can't use it.

Juliette is lovely, as is Alexandra...

DH sat here with me and says nothing stands out.

If all else fails, she's going to be Madeleine I think.

Liberty is gorgeous. What would you think if you heard Liberty [insert our last name] for some reason not writing it makes me anonymous!

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 13/08/2012 21:12

I have a 10 year old Madeleine and she is everything I would have wished for. Bright, spirited, and strong-willed.

Rouen · 13/08/2012 21:13

Unnamed what nns do you use for Madeleine?

OP posts:
wigglybeezer · 13/08/2012 21:16

I like Frances.
I also think Joanna is underused.
Like Harriet but not with your name.
Dorothea, thea for short?

MiniTheMinx · 13/08/2012 21:17

Oh, I like Bree, if your second name ends with or, (or) a, sound (depending on who pronounces it), and is two syllables would it not be better to choose a name with one syllable?

Rouen · 13/08/2012 21:20

It ends with 'or' so that's also been another consideration!

OP posts:
Rouen · 13/08/2012 21:21

I did like Ivy but it's just got a 'meh' reaction?

OP posts:
Rouen · 13/08/2012 21:23

Actually, thinking about it, everyone I know pronounces it like it has an 'a' on the end...

Someone's probably already said them but:

Caroline (Caro for short maybe), Agnes, Iris, Rose, Ruby, Rachel, Ruth, Georgianna/Georgina, Hannah, Judith, Laura.
