How would you pronounce Lyla for a girl (Indian name)? I would say Lie-La, DH says it should be Lee-la. we don't want a name that would be easily mispronounced.....but have very little else that we can agree on... Sigh...

For 'lee-lah', the spellig would need to be Leela.

'Ly' = 'lie' as in Lyra, although with Lydia there is the 'lee' sound, so I can see where your DH is coming from.

Don't think you'll have mispronunciation problems with Lyla, though.

That's hard, as I love the way Lyla looks on paper, but prefer the pronounciation Leela. Would Leila be an option, rather than Leela?

We wanted a fairly uncommon name and Lyla fits the bill... Leila and leela are just too common I think. Good to know that if we stuck to it and pronounced it Lie-La, she wouldn't have much trouble growing up with it... Hopefully neither of us go off it in the next few weeks!

I prefer Lila, but it will be mispronounced. Though really that doesn't matter as it'll only be strangers who mispronounce it. If you can cope with the occasional doctor or receptionist saying Leela instead of Lie-la then I wouldn't worry.
