Two middle names?

I've never been one for two middle names. Takes up a lot of space on forms but I'm a bit stuck because I can't decide on just one.

If its a boy, then we've got just one name sorted.
However, if it's a girl, DH wants his grannies name. Which is Rose. Lovely, lovely name but I'm very conscious that it's going to be the Anne/Jane/louise of this decade. My middle name is Anne, which is a perfectly nice name but I remember sharing a flat with 4 other girls. 4 of us had Anne as a middle name and the other was a Jane.

I'd like my grannies name, she's the only one she alive and therefore the only one going to meet her great grand daughter (if its a girl obviously!). Her name is Norah which is quite old fashioned and the first name is going to be Elsa ( which is also quite old fashioned!). I've had the most say in the first name so I feel it's only fair to let DH have the middle name.

Soooooo, my question is, is Elsa Norah Rose too much? Or should I just stick with Elsa Rose.

If dh agrees, go for Elsa Rose which sounds the best and save Norah for if you have another dd.

Fwiw, I think sisters named Elsa and Norah sound great so it could be a great first name too.

I agree, I'd save Norah up for a first name as its beautiful.

Definitely not going to have another one!! At least that's the current plan!

But, I think I agree, one middle name is probably enough and it should be Rose. Especially since I've been using the " I'm carrying your child damnit" reasoning for getting my way with the first name!

I don't see anything wrong with having more tn one middle name -it's never been a problem for my kids, so if you can't decide then use both. It's only 5 syllables. If you had an Alexandra Rose, say, it wouldn't sound so different, would it? My DD has 3 middle names, one of which is a compound name ( not Anne-Marie but similar idea) and a total of 8 syllables. She's fine with it and always has been (18 now)

Elsa is lovely! I personally would leave Norah out, Im not sure what it adds to a very sweet name.

I prefer Elsa Rose too, Elsa Norah sounds like it's one name - Elsanora.

I really like the idea of two middle names but wonder whether it would be better to use Rose as the first of the two middle names? Elsa and Norah both end in an 'a' sound, so I think it might be better to break them up a bit, sound-wise

I think you could use both if you wanted to, don't see why not....Elsa Rose Norah sounds better - Elsa Norah sounds a bit repetitive to my ears.

Elsa Rose sounds lovely, and the Norah doesn't quite work. However DD has two middle names and a five syllable first name, so personally I am a bit of a fan of the overkill!

I don't think there's anything wrong with having two middle names. I have two after both my grandmothers. DS1 has 2 because there were two names I wanted to use and didn't know if I'd have another boy (I had 4 more!!)
I very rarely use my middle names.

Secretly hoping for a girl so I get to use the name. Found it hard to find a boys name that I love and probably a bit cruel to call a boy Elsa?!

Love Elsa, DD2 was almost an Elsa but DD1's name is also a four letter name beginning with a vowel and ending with an 'a' so we decided it was too similar. Both my girls have two middle names, everyone in DH's family has two middle names so we thought we should continue the tradition. I didn't count syllables before DD1 was born and she ended up with an 11 syllable name , and her first name and two middle names all end in a.

If you aren't planning any more I'd use both Norah and Rose. But beware a friend used her two favourite names for her daughter and is now thinking she should have saved one of them for any future daughters.

Two of my three children have two middle names each. One has only one middle name.

TBH no one takes any notice of middle names and it kept family happy so we put in the extra ones. Plus DH wanted extra initals in case they ever played cricket for England.

As someone with 2 middle names I'd just like to say don't do it.

I have two and got bored of the extra effort required filling in forms etc. So one some forms started to drop the second middle name - this then ended up causing me loads of problems as my name on bank accounts didn't match passport etc - I ended up having to redo all bank accounts (and a few other official home stuff).

It's just easier with one name.

I have two middle names and have always loved that, even though two of them are quite long. It does make form filling a bit more if a faff but you don't fill in forms every week! My husband has two also hence we've carried on the tradition with our daughter and will do the same with DD2 arriving in October. I like the extra name options the girls will have if they don't like the first names we have chosen when teenagers / adults.

Two of my four have 2 middle names, which are all mine and dh's grandparents. So I would say have them both :-) It's not like any of the 3 names you've said are long, thinking of form filling!
