A colleague at work had her baby today ... And called him Maximus.

How can you not think of Russell Crowe and gladiator?!

hermionestranger · 02/08/2012 20:31

BuntCadger · 02/08/2012 20:32

What would you have called him
Op?

AWomanCalledHorse · 02/08/2012 20:33

I quite like Maximus (wouldn't use it myself) but it's a condom company (my first thought, then Russell Crowe).

Bunbaker · 02/08/2012 20:34

"How can you not think of Russell Crowe and gladiator?! "

I didn't. Never seen the film. Never wanted to.

meditrina · 02/08/2012 20:34

How to avoid the association?

a) by never having seen the film and,
b) not being totally sure I could pick Russell Crowe out of a line up.

It's a lovely name (as long as there is no sibling Gluteus)

RancerDoo · 02/08/2012 20:35

Nope. Makes me think of max headroom (remember him?)

MikeLitorisRings · 02/08/2012 20:38

Love it!

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 02/08/2012 20:40

Have you not read recent threads about children being called Cupcake, Peach and Yoshi?

Maximus is very civil all things considered. Wink

PorkyandBess · 02/08/2012 20:42

I love it.

Well I'm sure he'll be the only one in his class at school! I guess I'm more of a traditionalist Smile

I love Maximus, and what's wrong with being associated with Russell Crowe in the Gladiator? Fab film!

rachel234 · 02/08/2012 21:08

I love it. Great, solid name. I'm less keen on the nickname Max though...

Maximus is a great name, with Max for short. It's a Latin name which was popular with early Christians, so it's not just a fad - can't get more traditional really!

I'm not aware of the Russell Crowe/Gladiator connections.

SirBoobAlot · 02/08/2012 21:27

I read it in the Gladiator voice.

BikeRaceRunningRaceNoSkiing · 02/08/2012 21:28

Never seen the film. Don't know who Russell Crowe is.
The Maximus I know is NN Mouse.

boyfallingoutofthesky · 02/08/2012 22:31

I would just think it is a bit of a risky name if he turns out to be small and weedy!

MrsRhettButler · 02/08/2012 22:35

Its not exactly unusual is it?

(My dog is called Max and we call him Maximus)

meetupmisery · 02/08/2012 22:37

Cats name

Ruprekt · 02/08/2012 22:37

We nearly called DS Maximus but bottled out at the end and called him Max.

We do use Maximus as a nickname though.

However, I take your Maximus and raise it with the name my friend has given her son........

SAILOR.

I kid thee not.

yellowflowers · 02/08/2012 22:54

And his sister Minimus (nn Minnie)?
