Naming issue

DH would like to use a family name (great grandfather's) as a middle name. It's Stanley. Which I kind of think is alright. We've agreed on the first name and will choose a middle name each. DH's uncle, who is a thoroughly objectionable person (racist, homophobic) would really approve of us using Stanley. He's into family tree and all that.

I don't like DH's uncle (at all) and am having a very instinctive response NOT to use any name that he'd "approve of".

Am I being silly, mad, far too contrary? Or what?

I don't think it's anything to do with your dh's uncle. If it was his name you were considering that would be different, but I don't see why you care what he thinks of your name choice. You can't live your whole life only doing things he wouldn't approve of!

Hmm I can see why you would rather DH's Uncle didn't approve but I wouldn't let it put you off using a family name. If the Uncle is into the family tree he may well approve of any family name.
