I'm stumped and yep, Marcy is a terrible nickname for a boy.

PotteringAlong · 30/07/2012 11:40

Why do you need to shorten it? What's wrong with just marcel?

poppydaisy · 30/07/2012 12:39

Why on earth would you shorten a short, lovely name like Marcel? It is gorgeous as it is - please don't shorten it!!

rachel234 · 30/07/2012 12:42

I agree - why would you need to shorten Marcel Confused.

Marcel takes just as long to say as Marcy so please just leave it as Marcel. I like Marcel - lovely, underused classic.

My kids' names are 3 and 2 syllables long and don't get shortened.

Ruprekt · 30/07/2012 12:43

Mar

Cel

This name does not lend itself to shortening!

amck5700 · 30/07/2012 12:49

in my own experience, kids will tend to add an O if the name doesn't work by sticking a y or ie on it. So he will probably get Marcelo at school if that helps Smile

I don't get this obsession with 'shortening' names. Marcel is so easy to say and sounds great as it is. Why on earth would you even consider changing it to Marcy?!

Ninjacat · 30/07/2012 12:54

Thanks for all your replies Smile
You are right it doesn't lend to being shortened.

The only legitimate short version would be Marc with a hard "C" but then you would be as well calling him Mark in the first place Smile

Badgerina · 30/07/2012 13:21

Mars, with a soft s rather than Marz. It's just the first syllable of Marcel, so is quite a natural shortening Smile

tammytoby · 30/07/2012 15:12

Mars Hmm Why would you do that, when you can just as well call him Marcel, which is lovely!

Ruprekt · 31/07/2012 08:50

To me Marcel is the monkey out of Friends!!!!

jsabine89 · 01/08/2012 18:38

Marcel is a great name! It was my French granddad's name.

evamummy · 01/08/2012 18:39

Lovely name. Please don't shorten it at all!!

GetDownNesbitt · 01/08/2012 21:12

I know a Marcel - he is universally known as Marce

evamummy · 01/08/2012 21:13

How do you pronounce Marce - is it Mar-ceh?

ThePathanKhansWitch · 01/08/2012 21:14

Lovely name.

pjani · 01/08/2012 21:19

Cel (Sel)/Celo?

Am Aussie, can't resist a shortening that isn't actually shorter.

GetDownNesbitt · 01/08/2012 21:22

No, just Mar-SSS

With a northern accent
