Lara McGrath?

I adore the name Lara. Our surname is McGrath, though. Is this pretty or stupid with too many ar sounds?

I think it's fine, a little bit togue-twistery, but not enough to not use it.

How do you pronounce McGrath? Is it McGrath to rhyme with math or McGraa to rhyme with bra?

It rhymes with bra :-) I just really really want to use it and don't want to have to change the whole family's surname!

Ooooh in that case use it! I think it sounds cool, quirky and memorable. People with names that stand out do better at interviews (am sure i read this somewhere...).

Lara is a lovely name, but I think it rhymes with McGrath. However, perhaps this is a staid view of names; that they shouldn't rhyme (the 'Mary Clary' scenario). A name that rhymes is quirky, as was said upthread. It just depends if you want to bestow a quirky name on your DD.

If not, alternatives to Lara could be Laura, Laurie, Lauren, Laurel, Lena/Laina (Lay-na), Leni (Lay-nee), Leta (Lee-ta), Lettie, Lyra.

I think if you start pronouncing the TH in your surname, Lara will sound fine not helpful
