I think it's lovely.

The poster shop's been gone for something like 15 years, so no child born today is going to think Athena = poster shop.

I always assumed the name was pronounced like A theme but obviously replace the m with n if you know what I mean. That was the only way I could think of to say that.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 27/07/2012 14:23

Meh. Most people will hear her name before they see it written down, and if they say it wrong the first time, you just correct them and move on. Don't let it put you off.

MaryHansack · 27/07/2012 14:30

also if you say Ath EEN a it means the city of Athens
so it should be Ath een AH, which might be tricky.
Athene is a good name, but people in uk might say ATHEEN which could be annoying.

shimmy0 · 27/07/2012 14:46

Yeah that's what I was trying to say, but what is so wrong pronouncing it Atheen though?

MaryHansack · 27/07/2012 14:49

well it is a Greek name so the syllables are pronounced separately.
I mean you wouldn't say Peen - elope for Penelope.....

MaryHansack · 27/07/2012 14:50

or Peen-lope even

Kaloobear · 27/07/2012 14:52

I know a baby Athena and think both versions are lovely.

I know a 9 year old Athene. I doubt she'll ever come across another.

Great, uncommon name.
