Hi,

Our daughter is a few days overdue and we are having a few problems choosing a name. Here is our shortlist - (first name and middle name). Any thoughts welcome -

Amber Romilly
Stella Jasmine
Romilly Eva

We LOVE Amber but someone at work said it sounded like an American stripper - what do you think??? We also like Romilly but like the potential nicknames - Romy/ Milly - much less.

Thanks!

I really like amber! I am a bit of an American girls names fan though. I love Aubrey but haven't a DD to use it on.

I know a teenage Amber, never thought of her name as being 'American Stripper'....now if you wanted to call her Candy, Sugar or Chardonnay I may agree with your collegue! I say ignore her and go with the name you love the most and of those 3 my choice would be Amber Romilly. The 2 names flow really well together. Smile

Thanks so much both of you

Go with your heart - ignore comments. In my experience people tend to make comments about any name you suggest prior to naming child that but soon as you did use it people wouldn't say 'oh it sounds like an american stripper'
My cousin has an Amber and she's adorable.
Good luck!

ps love Romilly too

If you LOVE Amber, you must use it. People say the most terrible things about names if you reveal what you are thinking of. Which is why you never ever should (mn excepted because you will care less what a load of random strangers say).

The person you work with is a twat. Amber is a lovely name wig no stripper connotations in my mind. If you love it, use it.

Good luck with the birth :)

No stripper connotations for me. It does seem very american or a bit 70s in a UK context. Be prepared for the nn Hamburger, my DP went to school with one - but that was in the 70s too!

Best of luck with the birth & enjoy your beautiful daughter whatever you decide to name her Smile

I think Romilly and Amber are both beautiful! Don't mind your colleague I don't know how you could associate Amber with a strippers name!

manicinsomniac · 28/07/2012 23:47

I really like Amber.

No stripper connotation for me.

I've taught two - in a home counties independent school. Wink
