The name my dad wanted to call me was Deborah, as a kid I would have preferred this name but now im not convinced though it's a lovely name. What about you guys?

I was hazel for a while but they changed there minds.

wearymum200 · 27/07/2012 21:15

No alternatives have ever been suggested for me ,but if DH had been a girl ,his mum wanted Janet Edith (and floated the suggestion gently in the direction of our dd....)

4thplaceformathanxiety · 28/07/2012 04:02

They were arguing over Susannah (dad) vs. Suzanne (mum) but all along they were convinced I was ... yet another Robert. I ended up being named something altogether different by my aunt.

WandaDoff · 28/07/2012 04:14

I was either going to be Clare or Maria.

I'm glad they picked the one they did.

My brother was going to be Philip or Neil.

Again, I approve of their choice.

Must be about the only thing my parents & I, did agree on Grin

roteelefant · 28/07/2012 13:55

I was going to be Oskar if I was a boy. And up till I was about 2 days old I was Jadwiga. My scottish granny wasn't having any of it. So I got a boring average name that works in all 3 languages. :(

pissovski · 28/07/2012 14:15

Victoria or Helen

Matthew for a boy (I am now married to a Matthew!)

picnicbasketcase · 28/07/2012 14:18

My mum isn't the slightest bit woo usually but she only chose the names for me and my siblings, and didn't bother choosing names for if we'd been the opposite gender. Because despite not actually knowing what we'd be, she just 'knew'. If that makes any sense whatsoever Grin

HugeMedalTally · 28/07/2012 14:27

Abigail or Mara.

Abigail was "too" unusual, back then, so they named me a name so popular that there were six of us in one class.

My second name is Maria, because Mara was also thought to be too unusual. Hmm

(Do I sound bitter?)

IceCubes · 28/07/2012 17:31

My husband was going to be Barry!!! Luckily his dad changed his mind at his registration. Mind you, his actual name isn't much better...

AndWhenYouGetThere · 31/07/2012 19:02

Matthew for a boy (not bad, but very common in my era - I'd definitely have ended up as a "Matt B") and Janie for a girl.

I am very glad of my (unusual but classic) name, which I ended up with only after a well-loved relative passed away, my mum decided to honour her with my name. Much better!

pigleychez · 31/07/2012 19:50

I was almost a Donna.

Glad I wasn't a boy or i would of been called Collin. Surname then (maiden name) also started Colli... so would of been abit of a mouthful!

Mamamaiasaura · 31/07/2012 19:52

I'd have been Randolph if a boy.. I mean fucking Randolph!

If my sister could of named it would have been Lucy Brown (from Snoopy) Grin

derekthehamster · 31/07/2012 19:56

Claire, or my Gmothers choice was Annabelle. Michael if I was a boy. Not very imaginative my parents!

DonnaDoon · 31/07/2012 19:57

My Mum fancied being exotic and calling me Carmen or Sophia...My Dad unfortunately got his way and I was named ...wait for it.......Donna!

Badgerina · 01/08/2012 11:15

India. If a boy, I'd have been Thomas.

I've ended up a Hannah. Which I like Smile

CleoSmackYa · 01/08/2012 11:20

If I was a boy, my bio-Dad wanted Spock or Kirk Blush and Angry

Shesparkles · 01/08/2012 11:25

I was to have been Robbie if I was a boy....I wanted to use that for ds but dh vetoed it Angry

ladymariner · 01/08/2012 11:26

If I'd been a boy and my mum had her way I'd have been Shamus!!!!!! Bloody Shamus.....we're not Irish, and as far as I'm aware we have no leprechaun blood in us, god knows where she got that from! My dad says there was no way that was ever going to happen though.

SecretNutellaMedallist · 01/08/2012 11:30

Michael James Edward Peter

Ruprekt · 01/08/2012 11:32

Sarah Louise or Philip

They then had 3 boys, none of whom have Philip in their name!!

I ended up as Joanna.

Ruprekt · 01/08/2012 11:32

Wish I was called Kat!

greenwichgroove · 01/08/2012 11:32

Dd was going to be kaida which is a japanese name as I was a judo instructor but at the time there were not many unusual names about so I decided against it.

I then wanted Isabella and bump was Charlotte for a while but now exh said no and dd got number one common name of year which I hate :(

Boy would have been Jack or Aiden.

My mum has never discussed it with me :(

schplappo · 01/08/2012 14:17

My parents considered Fleur and Mercedes. I got lucky!

Noqontrol · 01/08/2012 14:20

Sarah. Although they chose something completely different in the end. Weirdly, people ask me if my name is Sarah when they don't catch my name properly the first time. Seeing as my name is nothing like Sarah, i can only figure that I must look like a Sarah.

Abzs · 01/08/2012 14:39

Heather Dawn - sounds like paint
Naomi - pronounced by the first person my mum mentioned it to as Ny-Omi, which put her right off.
