The name my dad wanted to call me was Deborah, as a kid I would have preferred this name but now im not convinced though it's a lovely name. What about you guys?

They were caught short a bit - having wound lots of people up saying they would call their DCs after Lord of the Rings characters, it came as a shock when I arrived much earlier than planned, so they used the midwife's name instead.
Fortunately, my name isn't Smaug.

MirandaGoshawk · 24/07/2012 16:27

Hepzibah Shock or Miriam (aargh!) or Petra (quite like that).

Thankfully I have a dull normal name.

DD would have been Savannah if she'd been born six months later because I loved the TV series. Good job she wasn't because I'd regret it now, I think.

MirandaGoshawk · 24/07/2012 16:29

Horse - it's not Horse, is it? Grin
Stallion?
Gallop?
Whinny?

DawnOfTheDee · 24/07/2012 16:35

Astrid or Ingrid.

and if i was a boy Ian.

MrsJohnDeere · 24/07/2012 16:36

They only had one choice, Richard. Convinced/hoped they were having a boy.
Also ridiculous as it clashed horribly with their surname.

CatSocks · 24/07/2012 16:41

Could have been Wendy, Stephanie, Odette

Would have liked Stephanie, ended up with another unusual one along the lines of Odette....

NarkedRaspberry · 24/07/2012 16:45

Gabriella

CaseyShraeger · 24/07/2012 16:49

I would have been Matthew had I been a boy. My mother wanted to give me an Irish girl's name, but my father vetoed it.

WrestlesBadgers · 24/07/2012 16:51

Mum wanted Olivia or Elizabeth. Dad wanted Wendy. I have none of those names! If I was a boy I would have been Alexander.

My brother was very nearly Matthew Adam Douglas- mum didn't catch on until he was born! Dad was devastated, he thought he'd got away with it.

Tigertots · 24/07/2012 17:06

My mum suggested Nicola, Angela, Claire, and Zoe; my dad vetoed them all. Apparently he quite liked Helen. Rachel = the only one they could both agree on.

itsjustmeanon · 24/07/2012 17:51

The other name was Sian, but last minute change of mind.

AllDirections · 24/07/2012 17:57

Victoria, which I would have preferred Sad

StellaAndFries · 24/07/2012 17:57

I was supposed to be a Claire but apparently I didn't look like one. If I'd have been a boy I'd have been a Lewis.

I'm a Sophie.

shouldbedoingtheironing · 24/07/2012 20:23

Hermione or Flora but the margarine came out in the 70's so couldn't be done at the time! I've always preferred my middle name to my first name so I can't say my parents got it right...

lambethlil · 24/07/2012 20:27

I would have been the name they called my younger brother.

Or Anneka- very unusual in the 60s.

TheWalkingDead · 24/07/2012 20:35

I think my parents were debating between my name and Chloe. Also, my middle name caused some debate as my mum wanted Leanne and my dad didn't like it. I am glad that they chose my name rather than Chloe and settled on a compromise for my middle name: Leigh

I can't remember if they had agreed on Luke for me if I was a boy, or whether that was an alternative for my brother.

CPtart · 24/07/2012 21:01

Natalie, but her bf beat her to it. I love the name, and would have given it to a daughter had I not had 2 boys!

wigglesrock · 24/07/2012 21:02

I would have been Grainne, in fact my Dad thought that was my actual name, my Mum had a wobble when she was registering it in the hospital and changed it (to a very popular 70s name Grin).

If I had have been a boy I would have been David or Michael.

QueenofPlaids · 24/07/2012 21:09

I was to be Christopher James.

My mother was a line sister with three brothers, my father one of four brothers, his father one of x brothers, his mother a one sister etc..

There hadn't been a female born in my father's "name" for 5 generations. I was a surprise Grin and am not called Christopher

StrawbRhi · 24/07/2012 21:46

I was going to be Rebekkah right up until my Mother was 36weeks pregnant when she suddenly changed it to Rhiannon because she read the Welsh story. My Dad made her research it thoroughly to make sure I wasnt being named after some evil witch before agreeing to it! Growing up I wish I'd been Rebekkah but looking back, I would have been one of 7 Becky/Becci/Becca's in my school year.

If I was a boy, I would have been Vincent.

BikeRunSki · 24/07/2012 21:55

My parents agreed on the name of their first DD ( which turned out to be me) v early on in their relationship. They had two DSes before me, so were obviously running out of ideas when they came up with my alternative boy's name of Ignatius Clovis

bruffin · 24/07/2012 21:56

Christina Mary or Maria
I got Christine and no middle name.

FarelyKnuts · 24/07/2012 22:44

My dad wanted Tamara I am seriously not a Tamara Mum wanted Tara but I didn't look like a Tara when I was born apparently :o. Ended up with neither. They had no boy names because they were sure I was going to be a girl. Mind you the name I ended up with was on neither of their lists either.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 24/07/2012 22:53

My dad wanted Rebekkah but I ended up with something miles away.

ceeveebee · 24/07/2012 23:00

My middle name Vanessa. I would have preferred it to my boring common (in an overused sense) name.
