Baby names

Unusual but not weird pretty girl names PLEASE!

Help me! Totally stuck on a name for our baby (we know she's a girl).

I'd like something unusual but not odd. Love pretty names for girls ending with a 'y' sound. If Lily or Millie were unusual names that's the kind of thing we'd go for.

We also have greek relatives so could use a Greek name but also no ideas here. Love flower names as well but can't find any unusual ones.

Can't have a 'r' sound though - i can say my 'rs' but never comfortable with them. So e.g. 'raphaela' would be out or 'primose' (not that I like primrose anyway but YKWIM).

If you're not already fed up of my list of requirements, can you please please give me some ideas?! Xxxxxxx

Don't know why this popped into my head when I read the opening post but what about Magdala?
Could be shortened to Maggie or Dally possibly?

Eleni is lovely but a bit too close to MIL's name for comfort!

Magdala ls nice but not so keen on Maggie.

Do you think Leonie is pronounced 'Leo-nie' or 'Le-ah-nie'? I like the second way but got a feeling it's not meant to be like that.

What about Jolie as in, 'Jo-lie' or have I made that up?

The Leonie I know is Leo-nie. Very pretty name IMO :)

How about Leah?

Jolie - as in Angeline Jolie? It is a first name apparently, it means "pretty" in French, but the J is pronounced the French way - zhoh-LEE

There are a few Leahnies if you google it.
I'm guessing it's a recent, made-up name - but I may be wrong. (It sounds like a made up name to me anyway!)

Leah's a bit too common (well, in the top 30 I think) but is a lovely name and would go well with surname. Though then I thought of old men 'leering' which put me off a bit!

All lovely names but still after more unusual ones - Elowen sweet but maybe too unusual for me. I'm not very easily pleased am I?!

I've a good list now though after starting with zero before I posted - current favs prob Leonie and Liberty. Think I'm starting to lean towards names beginning with L.

When I met a 'Tiggy' (Antigone), I really really wished I'd thought of it for our DD.

I thought Selene was Suh-LEEN? I knew one that was; her mother thought she was French.

What about Viola, as in the fabulous Shakespearean character? She is one fantastic feisty gal!

Pronounced VI-ola as opposed to Vi-OLA (which is an instrument).

If you like names beginning with L then how about Lydia?

Thea is the best one mentioned so far in my opinion! What a beautiful name.
