Damien or Jackson

Am really stuck choosing a name for my little boy due in the autumn. It was so easy to name my little girl but finding that there are so few boys names I like. The two I am considering at the moment are either Damien or Jackson and was wondering what the reaction to these might be (before I mention it to friends & family!)

Damien - the evil child from that film which terrifies me, sorry.

Jackson - wholesome American name.

WandaDoff · 21/07/2012 05:47

NOT Damien.

LaGuerta · 21/07/2012 06:56

Not Damien for reasons already outlined. (look up "The Omen")

What about Damon? Albarn, Hill etc

Jackson - I don't like surnames as first names, but that's just me. Jack would be great

sonniboo · 21/07/2012 08:31

I much prefer the sound and look of Damian. Also Jackson will get shortened to Jack, of which there are plenty imo!

KeepYerTitsIn · 21/07/2012 08:43

Damien is a lovely name and I think people of a certain age associate it with the film, but the kids he grows up with won't. Plus once he's called that it will become "him" IYSWIM, and nothing to do with a silly film. Jackson is also great but surname as first name is rather popular at the moment, if that sort of thing is important to you. Plus as sonniboo has pointed out, it will probably become Jack to his friends. Not that there's anything wrong with Jack, of course, just something to bear in mind.

BellaOfTheBalls · 21/07/2012 08:45

Damien is awful. Sorry. I will always associate it with The Devil Child from The Omen and I think that will always be a stigma associated with it. I've also never met a Damien that was pleasant (maybe that's just me?)

Jackson is much nicer. I know 2 and actually they don't often get shortened to Jack.

HandMadeTail · 21/07/2012 08:47

What about Pablo, Salvadore, Andy, Vincent or Claude?

MammaTonic · 21/07/2012 10:16

I don't like Damien for the reasons already outlined (also Del and Raquel's son in 'Only Fools and Horses'). I prefer Damon; it's also cooler sounding to my ears.

I like Logan. It isn't a name I would have on a shortlist for a son of mine, but it is a name I like a lot.

HTH,
MammaT

MammaTonic · 21/07/2012 10:18

Fuck! So sorry! Baby brain befuddles me once again! I read Logan on the forum board for another thread and got confused. Apologies, OP.

Jackson is a great name! Please apply what I said about Logan to Jackson :)

Damian, but with an "a" not an "e".

I know at least 4 - in their mid-thirties - they must have been born before that film. I think it's a lovely name.

Jackson is a bit slebby/American/chavvy

Condensedmilk · 21/07/2012 10:24

Yes sadly Damien has instant link to The Omen.

WanderingOkapi · 21/07/2012 10:24

But maybe Damien should be reclaimed. Liz Hurley ds is a Damien. Would get annoying with people der derring the omen music every time he did something naughty though. What about Julian ? Like Jackson too.

AKissIsNotAContract · 21/07/2012 10:37

I love Damien, it makes me think of Damien Marley.

Damien I really dislike Jackson.

lisaro · 21/07/2012 11:49

Is this real? If so, neither. Tacky.

Viviennemary · 21/07/2012 11:49

Not Damian. Devil child connections. Totally and absolutely not! And Jackson is far too American.

shimmy0 · 21/07/2012 12:40

I think it's only a matter of time before The Omen gets another release, like they might make another sequel or something like that. Don't forget that by the time the kid and his friends are all Internet savvy and googling their own names taking the mick and calling him the Devil child could start then. Yes it's an old film, but it's not going to be low down on google searches is it. Anniversary editions will come out and remember a few years ago it got remade and it appeared in every cinema and all sorts of ad campaigns preceeded it's release.

auroramusisamica · 21/07/2012 14:18

Thanks for all your replies, was really interesting & has given me loads to think about

Handmade - never thought of the artist connection!

Is it bad that, even after all the omen comments, I still can't get the name Damien out of my head. It is the name which feels 'right' to me but I was thinking it may not be well received Smile

Will keep thinking....

Fabian has the same sort of sound as Damien without the connotations. Personally I like Damien very much, but I think Jackson is horrible.

Badgerina · 21/07/2012 17:32

I really dislike them both I'm afraid. Damien, as has been said a number of times, has a very unfortunate yet iconic, film association. Jackson, to me is the better of the 2 but yes the "Michael factor" tarnishes it (although Jackson Pollock was pretty awesome)

winkle2 · 21/07/2012 17:42

I like Jackson :)

victoriassponge · 21/07/2012 21:56

TBH I really like Damien! the whole Omen thing annoys me so much.
Am trying to think of a name DH and I can agree on for my bump (DS2) and just because of one stupid film which I haven't even seen, I get the same reaction.

Jackson is nice too.

victoriassponge · 21/07/2012 21:57

But actually prefer the sound of Damien.
If Liz Hurley can do it....

victoriassponge · 21/07/2012 21:59

Sorry just to add that I also really like Lucien - which sounds quite similar and is a bit French, which is cool IMO.
