Is Arabella too like Annabelle?

Having a wobble about my favourite name choice, and Arabella is in second place. But we have an Annabelle in the family with same surname...will it be too similar??

It depends on how close a relative they are imho!

The names are very similar, so it depends upon how close the relative is to you. We have an Eleanor in our family, so I probably wouldn't choose Helena as a name for a DD, IYSWIM.

Sorry, meant to say that my family are close. If I was talking about DHs extended family (his cousin's kids) then it wouldn't be an issue as we don't have a lot to do with them.

Too similar for sisters but probably okay for cousins unless they both go by Bella.

BigBandwitch · 19/07/2012 19:45

I wouldn't. But some people will probably say it's fine!

I was reading something ABout the dragon Peter Jones and he has an Annabel and an Isabel (different mothers though). I thought it was a bit insensitive of the second mother. Like the frist 'bel' didn't exist.

In dp's family, the two of the three great children are Eve and Ava. No big deal

darkfever · 19/07/2012 19:49

Depends on how close the relative is and how often you see them.

If it's a niece who lives round the corner that you see at least once a week, for instance, then it's too similar.

If it's a distant cousin who you'll only see at weddings and funerals, for instance, then you'd get away with it.

I agree with FormerlyTitledUntidy - no big deal. If you like the name go for it, it's your LO after all! I think Arabella is a great name choice :-)

Gugglebum · 19/07/2012 20:52

They're similar, but not the same. Arabella is one of my all time favourites, while sadly the only Annabelle I ever knew was of the bovine family, so I see the names as being worlds apart. I really don't see them being alike enough for it to be a problem for cousins.

Nemonemo · 19/07/2012 20:57

I really dislike the name Annabelle, so don't understand why I like Arabella so much! Ah decisions decisions...
