I'm not keen, sorry.

Makes me think of the 7 dwarf song - "IO IO it's off to work we go". Although I have no idea why that leapt to mind, maybe I'm just being weird tonight.

It's just a bit too short for me. And no consonants.

Nyx · 18/07/2012 22:09

I do like the fact that it's from Greek mythology, and it's also something to do with Jupiter isn't it - a moon or something?

ZhenThereWereTwo · 18/07/2012 22:11

Quite like it, you could always go with Iona and then have Io as the shortened form.

darkfever · 18/07/2012 22:15

One of Jupiter's moons, named after a priestess that Zeus seduced and then turned into a heifer.

And having just looked, less than 3 girls in 2010 (possibly zero) were named Io, so not a popular name either.

HappyCamel · 18/07/2012 22:15

Wasn't the mythical Io blind or am I confusing it with a discworld book, anyway, I don't think it has great connotations.

JollyHockeyStick · 18/07/2012 22:16

Oh, I assumed it was a boy's name.

darkfever · 18/07/2012 22:18

HappyCamel, yes, you are confusing it with Discworld.

But less than 3 (and again, possibly zero) boys named Io in 2010, so certainly not popular as a boys name either.

SuiGeneris · 18/07/2012 22:20

Lovely but would need a resilient character to carry it in everyday life. But go for it!

BeattieBow · 18/07/2012 22:20

Is it short for Iolanthe?

notnowImreading · 18/07/2012 22:33

Think Io rode on Zeus's back when he was disguised as a bull. Not too grim as myths go. Nice name.

kilmuir · 18/07/2012 22:35

U

redrubyshoes · 18/07/2012 22:42

Sounds like a salutation.

shimmy0 · 18/07/2012 22:43

Yeah sorry IOU

bigwombat · 18/07/2012 22:50

It means "I" in Italian. Could be ok with a strong character!

Arwhen · 18/07/2012 22:57

I like it. But then, I would also have named my daughters Athena, Juno or Hebe. Good thing I had sons?!

LynetteScavo · 18/07/2012 23:01

I love the names Hebe and Juno, but think Io is a bit short.

Sounds like a short American pop artiste to me.

mumzy · 18/07/2012 23:49

I like it as i love the Greek myths but how well it'll be recieved by joe public will depend on where you live Liberal Islington you'd be fine but maybe not in the provinces
