Baby name for common last name

I've got a common last name so trying to pick a name that's at least somewhat less common. Please let me know what you think of these names, specifying favorite and least favorite.

I like Seth and Gabriel best.

Not sure whether I like Sawyer or Sage least. My main problem with Sage is that, if it wasn't in the middle of a list of possible boy's names, I wouldn't be sure whether it's meant to be a boy's name or a girl's name.

My vote would also be for Gabriel or Seth. Lovely names. Least favourites are Trent (just not keen), Kai and Roland (can't help but think of Grange Hill or Roland rat!) Oh, and really not fond of Nolan (sisters). Sorry!

I like Luca and Seth best from your list.

Love Sawyer and Sage. Least fave Gabriel and Kai (Rooney) all the others are fine just not my taste but still nice names

They all nice, although my least favourites are Kai and Luca.

My favourites are Kai, Seth and Gabriel but the others just aren't to my taste, sorry. They all sound fine with your surname though so you can't really go wrong :)

Gabriel is an angel, not someone out of a Victorian novel.

I don't like any but Gabriel or Silas (both popular in the Victorian novel - e.g. Thomas Hardy) the best of the bunch.

I like Gabriel and Silas, or possibly Seth. The others sound a bit soap operarey to me - not horrific, just not to my taste.

Gabriel Matthews is the best, I think. An unusual, yet classic and underused name.

If you call him Seth Matthews, you'd better hope he doesn't have a lisp.

Kai Matthews brings Karen Matthews to mind.

All the Gabriels I know of get "Gay" for short where I am from. Now it's ok if your child was born 60 or 70 years ago as that was the done thing and it wasn't meant as a p* take, but nowadays it could be taken or meant that way. As proof of this please look up Gay Byrne, former RTE broadcaster.

I think a little boy named Gabriel would have the nickname Gabe.

To be honest, I'm a bit confused by your list as you've got some very traditional, Biblical names thrown in with some modern, American names!

Not necessarily, I know loads of "Gays", and as its impossible to control what other kids say and what do I would steer clear of any first name that is a possible slaggable name.

Seth Matthews has too many 'th' sounds in it for my ear. Sounds a bit lispy. Gabriel is my favourite and agree that Gabe would be the NN.

Gabriel Matthews wins hands-down for me! I am biased, however: if DD2 had been a boy, she would have definitely been Gabriel.

That name is different enough without being outlandish. Other like-Hebrew boys names we considered were Ezra and Elijah. They sound good with Matthews, too.

Kai is my least favourite.
