Not preg but thinking for the future. Me and fiance really like:
Mona for a girl.
Lazarus for a boy, nn Larry.
Are they too mental?

I like Lazarus. Mona doesn't sound that nice in English imo.

picnicbasketcase · 16/07/2012 07:07

I prefer Yay and Nay.

Badgerina · 16/07/2012 07:10

I want to like them, but they have awkward connotations:

Mona = moaner.
Lazarus = leprosy.

puds11 · 16/07/2012 07:21

Badgerine Hmm
I knew a lazarus and a larry, and love the name. Mona reminds me of maon the vampire and she was a dick

VolAuVent · 16/07/2012 08:32

What Badgerina said.

Stellan · 16/07/2012 09:43

Mona = moaner.

I'd be inclined to use something else - maybe Ramona or Joan - that has a similar sound but more positive connotations.

I think Lazarus is a tricky name to wear.

Littlecherublegs · 16/07/2012 12:40

Dont like either sorry (mainly because of what Badgerina said).

AgathaTrunchbull · 16/07/2012 20:28

Mona's not great, because of the 'moaner' connection, as pointed out above. She'd have to be a very cheerful child to get away with it!

If you like Larry, why not go for Laurence? Has fewer dead body connotations...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/07/2012 20:31

Both terrible, sorry.

Geranium3 · 16/07/2012 20:32

sorry don't like either, reserve them for any future pets and choose from so many other wonderful names

Viviennemary · 16/07/2012 20:36

Mona - no. the nicknames at school will be awful. Moaning minnie. Moanalot
don't go there

Lazarus. --Not good either. Isn't he the one who rose from the dead after three days.

stifnstav · 16/07/2012 20:38

Vivienne - that was Jesus!

stifnstav · 16/07/2012 20:39

Lazarus did rise from the dead though, Jesus did that.

Ormiriathomimus · 16/07/2012 20:39

Neither of them. Yay and Nay are both appalling names.

Mona is ok, but the nn's could be a problem. Lazarus is terrible.

squoosh · 17/07/2012 16:05

I've never met a Lazarus. Larry as a nickname doesn't work for me as it's so informal.

'Behold, it is I Lazarus. I have just risen from the dead. Witness my newly rejuvenated corpse come to life'

'Oh and you can call me Larry'.

squoosh · 17/07/2012 16:06

Mona will get lots of 'bet you're a right moaner' sniggery type gags.

Although that might just be me and my inner teenage boy speaking.

VolAuVent · 17/07/2012 16:17

Marina?

VolAuVent · 17/07/2012 16:18

Lawrence with nn Larry

TouTou · 17/07/2012 16:19

Mona is awful. I don't think I'd ever get over the moaner connection.

Lazarus - rising from the dead, I think. I could get used to that one. Don't like Larry though. If it's to use Larry, I'd personally prefer Laurence.

TouTou · 17/07/2012 16:20

Just read Squoosh post Grin

PaperBagPrincess · 17/07/2012 16:43

Lazarus is way OTT. Poor kid.

Mona is OK. Prefer Mina or Nina.
