Popularity of George and Samuel?

These are the only 2 boys names DH and I agree we both like. I'm hesitant because they are both hovering around the top 10. I know some people say it doesn't matter (DH included), but I would really prefer something not too popular. I have only met 1 of each. But then I don't know loads of kids so would welcome others thoughts based on a country-wide experience. Thanks.

My 3 yr old DS is George Samuel and we love it. We chose it as you can't easily shorten George and Samuel was a family members name. We only know 1 other George and he is a few years older. Expecting no 2 at the moment and having the same debates around popularity vs what we love!

I know a couple of Georges - friend, acquaintance and two at nursery. No Samuels at all.

I have a George and he is very rare in my part of the woods. But I am in Australia and it doesn't even hit the top 100 down here.

Samuel is quite popular here - top 10 I think.

I love them both and if we had a second DS I would consider Samuel.

I have a nearly 4 yo Samuel and have never met another one (West Yorkshire).

.... but I know several - four ish- Georges between 6months and 4.

I know one George, but he's in the USA. And I can only think of one Samuel too (known as Sam).

Both lovely names, but my DD's primary class has 14 boys in it - 4 are called Samuel (or Sam) and 2 are called George! They are very popular here in the NW.

Thanks for your replies; they really are both amazing names....I guess that's why they are popular! Though DH wants Michael (father's name) as a middle name...no way am I having George Michael!!!

I've still got 5 months before baby's due so plenty of time to mull names over....decide no...then....decide yes! Or persuade DH to go for Ralph which is my absolute favourite....no chance I fear!
