Middle name for Esmée

twizzlestix · 15/07/2012 10:14

We've decided on Esmée for the first name but we're struggling to agree a middle name.

We'd like a name with a special meaning. Esmée means beloved or esteemed. Nothing too religious though please. Other than that all suggestions welcome :)

Thanks

for some reason i immediately thought of esmee matilda

anniewoo · 15/07/2012 10:20

Esmee Anna
Esmee Alanah / Alannah (darling in irish)
The 2vowel sounds E and A go really well together

If you don't already have a name that's significant to you to give your baby as a middle name, why do you need a middle name at all? This isn't fighting talk, I genuinely don't understand why people feel they need to give middle names.

Esmee ...

Grace (grace/graceful)
Carissa (grace; beloved)
Naomi (pleasant one)
Abigail (Fathers' joy)
Annabel (grace and beauty)
Felicity (happiness and fortune)
Kate (pure)
C/Karina (dear one)

HTH!

Do people not give name of loved family member as middle name anymore?

twizzlestix · 15/07/2012 11:21

We'd like a middle name because we think it sounds very brief/lacking without one. No family names as my DM is pyscho :) If we use DH relatives names, mine will moan. We thought it'd cause less arguments...

Constance
Faith
Joy

All lovely IMO

FanjoPingpong · 15/07/2012 11:29

I was just wondering about the pronunciation. I know that the diacritic signifies that it's "ay" rather than "ee" sound, but I also thought that having the double-e spelling meant it was "ee" rather than "ay". How are you pronouncing Esmée?

That will depend on what names go with it, which is why I'm asking. :)

twizzlestix · 15/07/2012 11:37

Fair question fanjo it's pronounced like Renée, so Es-may. Double ee ending is just the feminine form. The accent modifies the first e

Like anniewoo, I feel that middle names should be for beloved family members or friends, or other significant people - or even places! Do you have any heroines you'd like to name your baby after?

cece · 15/07/2012 18:09

I know an

Esmee Grace

and an

Esme Ann

cece · 15/07/2012 18:11

Ah but they both have the Es-me pronouciation rather than the Es-may one...

twizzlestix · 15/07/2012 19:27

Lovely suggestions mamatonic will put them to DH we are looking for meanings like that :)

Thanks Cece I like Esmée Grace but husband isn't so keen and my BF is called Anna so can't use Ann.

I gave middle names to given an alternative to their first names.
Poppy Alexandra, for example, may decide to use Alexandra as a professional name if she thinks Poppy isn't suitable.

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 15/07/2012 21:06

My first thought was Esmee Marie/Maria

How about
Esmee Elizabeth
Esmee Hope
Esmee Alexandra
Esmee Lucia

Mrschristiangray · 15/07/2012 22:02

My Esme has the middle name Violet after my lovely grandmother!!

Mrschristiangray · 15/07/2012 22:03

Oh should add that makes her initials E V and I love the name Evie but dh didn't so I still got it ha ha!!

Ham69 · 15/07/2012 22:08

My Esme's middle name is Florence which I love.

twizzlestix · 16/07/2012 19:54

Thanks for all the suggestions. I love many of them but DH is being a real pain. How can I get him to commit to a name?
