caelan

Any opinions on this name please.
We like caelan for a boy, unsure if this will cause too many problems with spellings and how its pronounced.
Variations include calean, kalean, caelan and kaelan. We also like the name caleb and think this might be a better option.
What does everyone think,
Thanks

Caleb.

discrete · 08/07/2012 20:10

How would you pronounce it?

Bunbaker · 08/07/2012 20:11

Is it a Celtic name? I would pronounce it Kalen. Is that correct?

SilveryMoon · 08/07/2012 20:13

I like Caleb

wigglesrock · 08/07/2012 20:14

I'm in NI and Caolan (Kay lin) is quite a popular name for boys. I think between dd1 and dd2 we know about 6 or so. I've always really liked it.

jlx · 08/07/2012 20:16

Its pronounced kale-an and its scottish I believe. I just don't want to cause to many problems for future ds in constantly correcting name so maybe should go with caleb. X

Caleb is much nicer. I don't like Caelan at all.

Mum2Kaison · 08/07/2012 20:25

I like it but I would have spelt it Kaelen or Kailun

AlpinePony · 08/07/2012 20:26

Is it a marine invertebrate?

SoupDragon · 08/07/2012 20:28

I like it but, whatever you do, don't spell it with a K, it looks dreadful.

SLVC · 08/07/2012 20:51

I much prefer Caleb.

VolAuVent · 08/07/2012 20:58

I like Caelan. Don't like Caleb, it's an odd-sounding and clunky name.

tammy234 · 08/07/2012 21:22

I like Caelan and think it is much stronger sounding than Caleb.

sparkle12mar08 · 08/07/2012 21:28

I quite like it but you and he will spend a lifteime telling people how to spell or pronounce it.

Northernexile · 08/07/2012 21:40

I am in NI and also know it as Caolan - nice IMO

jlx · 08/07/2012 21:46

Thanks everyone, I really thought people would say they dislike it.
I think I prefer the spelling caelan. I know i'm likely to have to spell for people if we choose to go with it but other ds is jacob and you'd be amazed at the amount of times i've had to spell his name or it has been spelt wrong. Will def keep it on the list. X

Don't like Caleb, Caelan in any spelling is a much nicer name.

PenisVanLesbian · 08/07/2012 22:23

Find out the actual proper spelling rather than making one up. Caelum is an Irish name that is similar.

And definitely no K.

freerangeeggs · 08/07/2012 23:10

I like Caleb, but it's quite similar to Jacob.

Caelan is one of the nicer spellings of the name I've seen and I do think it's handsome and strong. I prefer Caolan though.

MikeLitoris · 08/07/2012 23:14

My nephew has a similar name and at first I hated it.

He's now almost 1yo and I have to say it really suits him.

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 08/07/2012 23:15

I have a Kailum.

MN doesn't like K's Grin

I like the name by the way

storytopper · 08/07/2012 23:53

Have a colleague with a son called Caelan. He took his first steps today. Lovely name, lovely boy.

Fireandashes · 08/07/2012 23:57

Jacob and Caleb are quite similar in sound, so if you really love Caelan, go for it.

memphis83 · 09/07/2012 00:02

I know a little Caelan and his parents haven't had to spell it out or pronounce it to anyone, I really like it.

pinkandsparklytoo · 09/07/2012 00:03

I love Caelan but unfortunately my DH didn't otherwise it would have been DS1's name.
