I know, I know. It's who you are/how you act, not your name that makes you. But I adore those posh, fancy names like Cressida,Romilly, Araminta, Jemima etc. They're pretty, with history, but are underused. I already have a list of boy names I love (Willoughby, Hugo, Julius, Montgomery, Caspian, and Atticus) so just girl names are needed!

Note: I also am fond of the slightly ridiculous names like Digby and Osbert, Zelda and Hebe. But that is for another thread, another time!)

I am just looking for the female equivalent of Rupert, really.

R names - Romilly, Romana, Rachel, Rosalyn?

Names that match Rupert to me - Tabitha, Natasha, Jemima

EmilyRoo · 08/07/2012 06:30

Thanks EduStudent! I mean "names like Rupert" in terms of style, inimitable poshness, things like that. So Tabitha and Jemima match that to me. Natasha has a very different vibe to me, probably because I'm American.

Three names I have heard used by 'posh' people for their daughters were: Hester, Romola and Atlantis

SilkStalkings · 08/07/2012 08:49

I assume you've looked up real princess names? And Jane Austen characters?
The only titled girl I ever knew was called Velvet, prob not what you are after.

lottiegb · 08/07/2012 12:19

Have you seen Made in Chelsea? They are very posh, though some of the girls' names aren't what you might expect. Otherwise read Tatler and look out for birth announcements in The Times and The Telegraph.

noddyholder · 08/07/2012 12:43

I think naming a child has to come naturally iygwim you can't just choose something from a whole social group if it doesn't 'fit' with you. The female equivalent of Rupert would be something sloaney like Caroline

Newmum14 · 19/10/2013 22:29

Candida is the growth that causes thrush - I can't think of a less posh name

EvangelineGracelyn · 20/10/2013 00:24

I went to an all girls boarding school (considered rather 'posh') and names of girls I knew were:
Pandora
Felicity
Madeleine
Saffron
Hermione
Arabella
Trixabelle
Darcey
Harriet
Tallulah
Frances
Juno
Delilah
Saskia
Peony
Finity
Luca
India
Clara

My name is Evangeline and my sisters' names are; Anastasia, Esmabella, Aalliyah, Alexssia, Pixiphersia, Ammeliah & Irisxandra

Hope this helps Smile

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/10/2013 10:06

You had a lucky escape with your name, Evangeline! Smile

My name and those of the DDs always appear on these threads. I am not posh. My name and that of DD2 are family names (Central European).

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/10/2013 10:08

Pixiphersia even stumps Google! (I wanted to see its origins.)

CruCru · 20/10/2013 10:47

Zuleika (from Zuleika Dobson).

islandinthestream · 20/10/2013 11:22

A lot of the names that were considered posh when I was at school are now commonplace: Sophie, Charlotte, Alice, Emily, Isabel, Olivia, Amelia, Annabel all spring to mind. Others which are similar but haven't caught on in quite the same way: Caroline, Susannah, Lucinda, Camilla, Victoria, Henrietta, Antonia, Georgina, Philippa, Alexandra, Catherine or at the posher end of the scale Pandora, Felicity, Francesca, Clarissa, Cressida, Araminta, Perdita, Arabella. There were also the slightly arty posh names like Rosalind, Hermione, Imogen, Phoebe, which have also become more popular now. Good luck!
