Aniela

One of dd's nursery workers is called Aniela which is lovely I think and lends itself well to the nn I want, Annie. The web says it's a form of the greek word for Angel but anyone know what countries is is common in - I feel funny asking the woman at nursery where she is from (I look foreign and hate it when people ask where I am from assuming I am not from here) but would love to know 0- I think it's a bit weird using a name from a country or culture to which you have no connection.

Plus what do you think of the name?

Do you say it Annie-Ella?

VolAuVent · 01/07/2012 22:43

Yes, is it Ann-yay-la or Ann-ee-la or Anniella?

StickyProblem · 01/07/2012 22:48

I think it's Polish. Lovely!

yellowflowers · 01/07/2012 22:49

Polish. A lovely name imo.

Devora · 01/07/2012 22:51

I know an Anne-Yael, which is pronounced very similarly. Yael is a Jewish name; she is French.

I also know a Nanerl, which is Irish.

VolAuVent · 01/07/2012 23:08

Sounds like a very pretty name.

GreatestGatsby · 02/07/2012 10:33

The only Aniela I know is very English- I believe it's a Polish name but not as Polish as, say, Agnieszka or Magdalena, and it never occurred to me to ask where it's from.

I think it's very pretty and she's a lovely girl so only positives here!

minipie · 02/07/2012 10:51

I knew an Aniela, always thought it was a lovely name. Pronounced Ann-yeller. I don't think she was Polish but not sure!

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 02/07/2012 11:41

I like it!

winkle2 · 03/07/2012 20:13

CPtart · 03/07/2012 20:32

I know one too, but she's very English. No idea of the origin.

yasmin85 · 11/07/2012 19:38

Aneela is also a muslim name

AThingInYourLife · 11/07/2012 19:40

I like it!

But if you use it, d

AThingInYourLife · 11/07/2012 19:41

I like it!

But if you use it, don't shorten it to boring Annie, just use the full name.

littlemissbroody26 · 11/07/2012 20:55

its a really pretty name :)

if you want to know about her name could you just ask her where her name comes from rather than asking her where she comes from? I'm sure she would be really pleased if you said how much you love her name and your thinking of using it :)

LeBeauReve · 11/07/2012 21:18

I know someone whose daughter is called this and they call her Nelly.
Love Aniela, HATE Nelly!

Ettaras · 12/07/2012 02:28

I know an Aneliya (pronounced An-neel-ya), she is Bulgarian.
