well decided against blossom as it may be shortened to blo (job) at school! looking for cut french slant, amabel? lilou? also we keep calling her mouse or mini, and mini is sticking but i only know of mini driver so not sure it would be a good choice.... Oh the stress of it ! What do you think of amabel? oh says she will just get called annabel?

I'm afraid Amabel does look like a spelling mistake.

Labootin · 30/06/2012 13:41

Vivienne
Marrianne

Please not Mini or amabel

shoobidoo · 30/06/2012 13:41

How about Blossom, nickname Blossie?

Nospringflower · 30/06/2012 13:42

Mimi?

Charlotte1234 · 30/06/2012 13:42

No to mini! It's what I called my vag when I was a kid! And I thought lots of others did too. Grin

seeker · 30/06/2012 13:42

Just so you know, in many parts of the country, Minnie is child slang for vagina - sorry!

And-sorry again- Amabel looks and sounds like a typo. I think it would be incredibly irritating after a while to have to keep correcting.

Any other ideas?

BrittaPerry · 30/06/2012 13:43

We call our Marianne Mimi as a nickname - will that work?

Labootin · 30/06/2012 13:43

Fwiw in my hormone addled last few weeks of pregnancy I considered Pootle (taken from the flumps) as a contender

scummymummy · 30/06/2012 13:48

Marianne?
Amalie?
Simone?

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 30/06/2012 13:51

Amabel looks like a spelling mistake and when she says it will make her sound like she had a speech impediment.

Mini should me Minnie if you must, but it does mean vagina to a lot of people

Lilou is horrible

Blossom is significantly better than any of those tbh

GnocchiNineDoors · 30/06/2012 14:01

Mimi

Ariadne

Rowan

blackcurrants · 30/06/2012 14:48

Cute French (ish) names that English People can say:

Madeline
Sylvie
Marianne
Lisabet (Or you could call her Elizabeth, Nickname Lili, which is what my French Aunt gets called, and is apparently v. common there)
Lily

Please god not Mini. If we'd called DS by his bump-name he'd be called Sprout .... not great but at least it doesn't mean Vagina ! Poor girl!

Ohmydarlin · 30/06/2012 14:50

Isn't Minnie Drivers real name Amelia? Amelia nn Minnie is nice.

seeker · 30/06/2012 15:03

You can't call a child Minnie. You really can't.

badtime · 30/06/2012 15:07

FWIW, Amabel was the original name and Annabel started off as a variant/typo.

marathonrunner · 30/06/2012 15:09

I agree with the above posters, a definite no to mini. Especially spelt like that. To be honest, I don't like any of the names you've chosen.

Marianne is lovely

How about:
Mimi
Ines
Amalie
Cosette - LOVE THIS!!!
Lisette
Genevieve
Elodie
Angelique
Joely/Jolie?

BrittaPerry · 30/06/2012 15:23

I think we have a bit of a European/traditional thing going on. Our names are (obviously a few belong to each person):

Emmeline
Catherine
Isabella
Alicia
Marianne
Petra
Charlotte
Lucy (Lucie)
Joanne
Jessica
Jeanette
Christabel
Christine

None of which are too "made up".

Although trying to explain that Marianne is not Mary Anne, that Emmeline is not Emily and that Alicia is not Alesha, is enough trouble. Don't go giving a child unusual spellings as well.

SandyBottoms · 30/06/2012 17:08

Amelie is lovely and suits your theme.

Iburntthecakes · 01/07/2012 13:08

Are you Chantelle?

www.metro.co.uk/showbiz/903302-chantelle-houghton-alex-and-i-want-to-start-trying-for-another-baby-already

If so, then no. Don't go for Minnie. For the reasons above and also for a better one.

Instead go for Clementine or Artemis or Persephone or Araminta.

Something full of middle class pretentiousness. Grin

Pleeease. It would completely flummox those waiting eagerly to take the piss out your daughters name and make my day

Pleeeeeeeese.
