DD is Alice and we are thinking of naming our impending DS Toby or Jasper. Jasper is preferred but I have read that these are the names of a couple in Twighlight. I haven't seen the films or read the books so don't know who they are or if they are main characters. Do you think this would be a problem - would people make comment? Would you avoid Jasper?

They are secondary characters. I'm not a big fan so it wouldn't have occurred to me tbh, but maybe it would to others.

SandyBottoms · 28/06/2012 10:54

Only to massive fans I guess. My friend had a Phillip and a Grant. She never ever watched eastenders so it never occurred to her. She gets asked all the time sometimes if she's an Easties fan.

I think it would be fine, as taking said, they are not main characters, and I think only die hard fans would think about it.
Besides, in a year or so the Twilight thing will have died down considerably as the last film is out towards the end of this year.
I am quite a big twilight fan and it didn't even occur to me until I read your second sentence.
If you were thinking Edward and Bella, however I think people would be a bit Hmm
I love Toby FWIW - but Jasper is great - my puppy is Jasper Grin

Alice and Jasper go well together. I don't watch Twilight so haven't heard of these characters. I don't suppose it will be a popular series forever. In any case they are classic enough names to not be an immediate reminder of anything else.

RubyFakeNails · 28/06/2012 16:47

I only think of it now you have said it.

They are sort of siblings of one of the lead characters. In a few years I imagine lots of people wont know what you are talking about so wouldn't worry.

DottieRose · 28/06/2012 23:53

I think it would be fine and I watched the movies and didn't get it! Alice and Jasper are a really cute sibset!

Lannie33 · 29/06/2012 02:13

i read one twilight book a while ago and it never would've occurred to me if you hadn't mentioned it. And even now i struggle to remember who these characters were. I think it's a non-issue. In 5 years no one will even remember twilight existed.

EllenParsons · 29/06/2012 02:22

I have vaguely heard of these being Twilight names but I didn't know they were a couple, have never read the books, seen the films and generally am not interested in it in the slightest so it wouldn't have occured to me.

They are nice names and I don't think it should put you off Jasper.

I have got an Isabella and an Edward. The only person who has ever commented ( or realised I think) is my dd1.

I would go for it if I were you - not everyone has read Twilight and in 10 years time it will have been forgotten anyway!

Badgerina · 29/06/2012 08:05

I think it would bother me slightly, but rationally, it's unimportant. Twilight is hardly going to go down in the annals of classic literature.

I should add here though that this is coming from a mama who is considering calling her DS2 Felix, to go with DS1 Oscar, which just so happen to be the names of The Odd Couple... Blush

BeattieBow · 29/06/2012 11:14

my eldest is called Charlie and I wanted to call dd1 Lola! (this was before the books). Luckily I didn't.

No one comments on my Isabella and Edward and he is only 4 so was named while the twilight frenzy has been around. (I dont' call her Bella though. I also have a Charlie (Bella's dad in the book) and my name is one of the Vampires names too. I just had a baby and wanted to call her Alice! I would have had the whole set of characters!

LiteraryMermaid · 29/06/2012 11:53

Think it would be fine. Suspect that the Twilight phenomenon is on its way out anyway. They're both fairly normal names, so I wouldn't see a problem.

nizlopi · 29/06/2012 14:50

They are both Twilight names, I'd avoid them tbh
