DD1 is Lucy, could I have opinions on the following shortlist for DD2 please?

Charlotte
Meredith (loved this, but then read the thread on here that its often thought of as a boys name)
Elizabeth (nn probably Bess)
Catrin

DH is (thankfully) on board with all of them and I get the final say on this one - he got the final say on DD1 :-)

Elizabeth or Charlotte

Charlotte is my favourite from the list, but I do think Meredith is beautiful, and I've only ever thought of it as a girls name Smile.

Like Charlotte the best from your list.
Catrin is ok (though prefer Catrina) and I dont mind Elizabeth (though would prob shorten to Beth).
Not keen on Meredith but do see it as a girls name.

I think Lucy and Charlotte would be lovely! Smile

Charlotte

In order of preference...

Elizabeth (nn probably Bess) - best of the list, and Bess is a pretty nickname
Meredith - lovely, wouldn't think of it as a boys name
Charlotte - OK
Catrin - the "cat" puts me off

re Meredith - I started the Meredith boy/girl thread. Having done some more research (eg looked at names.darkgreener.com/#meredith), since 1996 there have only been 3 baby boys named Meredith in England or Wales (all in 1998), and I don't think any boys with the spelling Meredydd (a couple of girls though). There have been 2 or 3 dozen girl Merediths each year in the same time frame.

So essentially, I think among the older generation in Wales, Meredith may still be seen as a male name, but for pretty much everyone else, and especially in England and overseas, it is only used for girls. It is near the top of our list for DD1 anyway :)

"Among the older generation" Pointy? I'm only bloody 29! :o

Maredydd is another spelling.

I like Elizabeth, and Bess is a fabulous nn

PointyDogs · 26/06/2012 14:29

lol IawnCont :)

Just checked Maredydd, no babies at all since 1996 (can you tell I like this name and am desperate for it to stay on our list?).

Charlotte

Charlotte first and then Elizabeth

Charlotte... Goes so well with Lucy..

I prefer Meredith of them all. We are thinking of it for our potential DD's (don't know sex yet) middle name.

Pleeeeeeease don't call her Charlotte. Way too popular now. Meredith much more interesting.
