Nicknames and Teasing Potential Please...

DP and I are expecting a son and we've pretty much decided on the name Thomas Michael.

We chose these anmes as we both actually like them, they have family significance and we see them as good "solid" names (not weird or dated etc).

Can you offer up any nicknames or teasing potential that we haven't thought of? If it makes a difference, the surname is a compass point... not northern, eastern, southern, but the last one.

No, I can't think of any. My mate is John Thomas, which caused him some teasing! Thomas Michael W, T.M.W - fine.

Can't think of any specific teasing issues, but kids are pretty imaginative and if they want to tease a child they WILL find something imo. Don't let that stop you using the name you love!

I can't think of anything but like Rachel says children will always find something else anyway.

DS2 is Gabriel. Everyone said how much he'll get teased but we adore his name. We could call him something like James or Jack and he'd still get teased about something or other.

So try not to think about it and just choose a name you love.

Absolutely - if a child is a teasing target, the teasers will find lots of things to tease and it is rarely the name in my experience. Equally, I know lots of kids with unusual names that are super cool and confident!

The only thing i ve ever know someone called Thomas be teased for was .. "Choo Choo Thomas!" after Thomas the tank engine.
