Leto?

Please be gentle with me :)
Leto is a classical Greek name but it's female (mother of Apollo). However I love it as a boy's name and am kind of stuck on it. What does it say to you? Anything? Nothing? I have never heard of or met any, male or female (apart from a character in Dune!)
I would like to add that I am not a Jared Leto fan :)

I love this name for a girl , but I have been told in no uncertain terms that due to Paul Atreides's dad and Jared, I have to let go of it. I think of it like Hero and Io - it is a girl's name but unless you know the Greek stuff, you may not know that.

See, I liked Duke Leto in Dune, he sounded like a good role model :o
The killer is that even DH likes it, and his normal suggestions make my head spin. And it goes well with our surname (one syllable, Scandi sounding).

Sorry...

UrsulaBuffay · 14/06/2012 18:40

Jared Leto That is all.

StepOutOfSpring · 14/06/2012 18:44

LOL, give us a bit longer, it's not even an hour since the OP yet :o

I assumed Leto was a boy's name when I saw the thread, because there are quite a few boys names ending in "o". How do you pronounce it? Is it Letto, Lee-toh or Ley-toh?

mamalovesmojitos · 14/06/2012 18:50

It just reminds me of Jared Leto. I think if I know the history begins a name & it's a feminine one then I wouldn't like using it for a son. If you like it just use it though Smile. You'll never please everyone.

I need answers nooowwww Step! :o
I think if I knew any female Letos I'd feel different but I've never even heard of any.
I'd pronounce it Lay-to (like Potato...)

He might win the Lotto - good omen.

StepOutOfSpring · 14/06/2012 19:03

OK! Well, it's different but it's growing on me :) Quite nice I'd say.

Jared. Delicious as Jordan Catalano, bit creepy since.

CoteDAzur · 15/06/2012 14:00

Ah, another Dune fan Grin

Pearla · 15/06/2012 14:10

I LOVED My So Called Life! I love all the Greek names but I don't think I'd use it for a boy, despite it sounding masculine...

Sorry for the useless comment! Grin
