What do you think of the name Arianne? After short listing some top 20 girls names, I saw this one and I think I quite like it.

I knew an Eirian, pronounced the same I think. She was just the loveliest, sweetest, kindest, gentlest soul (and she was a doctor). When I saw the title of your post I thought of her and it made me smile. Positive associations - has my vote :)

lovely, I know a few.

you will get a few "know what I mean Arry"

but all the ones I know are very nice.

StepOutOfSpring · 12/06/2012 19:31

I like it. Arienne and Arianna are nice too.

TodaysAGoodDay · 12/06/2012 19:32

Arianne is beautiful, another version is Ariadne if you fancy something different.

EclecticShock · 12/06/2012 19:33

Really like it :)

PointyDogs · 12/06/2012 22:15

Love it - the similar sounding Ariana is on our list.

Lunarlyte · 13/06/2012 07:18

I like it, but prefer Adriana (pronounced ad-ree-are-nah)

poppydaisy · 13/06/2012 08:38

Love it!

FfoFfycsecs · 13/06/2012 09:21

Eirian is pronounced Ey-ryann and I think Arianne is Arry-Ann.
I like it. Arian means silver in Welsh :)

BetterOnACamel · 13/06/2012 10:35

Both sound lovely FfoFfycsecs. Do you know if there's a difference in meaning between the two by any chance?

pinkpiggy · 13/06/2012 10:39

Thank you everyone! Do people prefer Arianne or Arianna?

Prefer Arianne - lovely name

Ephiny · 13/06/2012 11:47

I think it's lovely, very pretty name. I prefer Arianne as it sounds more simple and elegant, Arianna is just that little bit too 'fussy' for me (though both are nice names).

strawberrybubblegum · 14/06/2012 18:13

Arianne is one of my very favourite names. DH has said he quite likes it too, so it's def on our short-list.

The only concerns I have with it are:

  • people hearing it as Marion (my name is a bit unusual, and often mis-heard, which I hate!)
  • The rocket. Probably wouldn't matter too much for most people, but a family member was once involved with it (which is when I first heard and fell in love with the name) so I'm not sure if they would find it a bit strange.
winkle2 · 15/06/2012 19:15

Like but prefer arianna

Rhubarbgarden · 15/06/2012 22:41

I think of the rocket. Not keen, sorry.

DoesBuggerAll · 16/06/2012 20:30

My niece is called Arianne. I've always thought it a lovely name. Did think of the rocket at first though.
