This is my first post on Mumsnet so hello everybody!

Here is our short list (really more mine as DH thinks the baby will pop out and the name will "just come" to him). Can you tell us which you like or suggest some alternatives that are on the same idea?

Eden (NN Edie)
Harriet
India
Isla
Juliette
Matilda
Tabitha
Willow

Elias
Elijah
Elliott
Reuben (Ben for short?)
Samuel/ Samson
Theodore
Zachary

Only like Harriet and Isla from your girls list but I love all your boys list except for Elias.

Plonker · 10/06/2012 17:13

Love Harriet, Isla, Juliet (prefer this spelling) and Willow

Boys names I like Elijah, Reuben and Theodore (Theo is gorgeous)

Good luck

Eden or Juliet (spelt with one 'T')

Elias, Reuben, Samuel or Zachary

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/06/2012 17:28

Eden (NN Edie) - Edie is lovely; less fond of Eden
Harriet - love it
India - no
Isla - no
Juliette - love Juliet but this spelling looks like overkill to me
Matilda - ok
Tabitha - hate it, sorry
Willow - no

Elias - love it
Elijah - nice enough
Elliott - no
Reuben (Ben for short?) - no
Samuel/ Samson - Samuel is nice; Samson is not
Theodore - nice
Zachary - no

I'm not overly keen on Matilda or Willow as there seem to be more of these every year. If that doesn't bother you then there's nothing wring with the names.

I also prefer Juliet to Juliette.

Boys, all fine. Zachary and Samuel are always popular though.

KosherBacon · 10/06/2012 17:36

Thanks for the tips!

I am not keen on Simeon as it is too monkey like for me! I like Isaac but my brother and SIL have it picked out for a future boy, so wouldn't want to steal their name!

I am surprised at the Juliet v Juliette debate. I've only ever met Juliette's, which is why I spelt it like that!

My favourites from your list are...

Eden (NN Edie)
India
Matilda

Elias
Elijah
Reuben (Ben for short?)

I think Reuben is a fantastic name but my husband disagrees. You could also consider Eli, Ezra or Malachi (nn Chi). But I can never think of any good girls' names!

Buntingbunny · 10/06/2012 18:02

The Eden I know is a boy, tabathia is a cat. The rest are fine.

Your boys list are great!

ripsishere · 10/06/2012 18:17

Elias is a lovely name, owned by a fabulous man we know. Elijah is OK the rest I don't like.
Of your girls names the only one I would consider would be Juliet. How about Julia or Ellen or Anna or Grace?

KosherBacon · 10/06/2012 18:29

Hi Ripishere, thanks for the suggestions but think Julia and Ellen are a bit dated, Anna is blah and Grace is done to death at the moment! Every other baby girl seems to have it as a middle name round our woods.

OK, how about Lydia? I love that name, I also like Rose and Elizabeth (NN Betty)

StepOutOfSpring · 10/06/2012 19:10

I like Juliette and Willow, and quite like Harriet. All the boys' names are nice, my favourites would be Samson, Theodore, Elias.

Eden (NN Edie) - OK, though prefer Edith/Edie
Harriet -quite nice, and classic
India - a bit 80s try-hard
Isla - faddy, how about Iona?
Juliette - lovely
Matilda - don't like
Tabitha - don't like, a cat's name
Willow - lovely

Elias - like
Elijah - like
Elliott - like
Reuben (Ben for short?) - OK, or how about Benedict/Ben?
Samuel/ Samson - like both, Samson a nice change from Samuel
Theodore - like, and Theo is nice nickname
Zachary - quite like

KosherBacon · 11/06/2012 06:58

Rip- my niece is Rose and SIL is Elizabeth so no to both of those. Lydia is a real no no!

StepOutofSpring- Benedict always strikes me as a very catholic name which is a no no for a Jewish girl looking for some kosher bacon! Edith was my grandmas name and Im not 100% on the old names becoming new again, which is why I like Eden and Edie instead. We could just cut the Eden and go straight for Edie.
