Lewis? or Nicholas?

Hello, any thoughts on this please?

Dh and I both like Nicholas (nn Nick), but dh prefers Lewis. I think I like it too, but not sure about it. Is it a bit common or not? I don't think I know anyone called Lewis as a first name - isn't it more of a surname? Or was it more something that was popular a few years ago and is a bit unfashionable now?! (Sorry)!

What would you prefer out of the two? Thanks. x

I like Nicholas better. it's my brother's name and if I had another boy I'd consider it. Nicky is cute for a toddler. Lewis made me think immediately of Lewis Hamilton (not a bad thing). The office of national statistics has spreadsheets online of all the baby names registered going back many years which can tell you about popularity with great accuracy.

Nicholas = much much better

Nicholas. It's timeless but doesn't seem overused these days. Like Nick too.

Agree that Nicholas is timeless, if a bit...tame (sorry).

Lewis was fashionable a few years ago & yes, sounds like a surname to me & I don't like surname names as first names, although it's not too bad. But don't be persuaded to choose it if you don't love it.
