Does this sound ok?

We are considering names for DD and one of them is Lily. Our surname, however, is a colour beginning with W and ending in E. Would this be ok or just silly?

LoopyLoopsCorgiPoops · 08/06/2012 23:11

Um, sorry but isn't that the name of a make of sanitary wear?

LoopyLoopsCorgiPoops · 08/06/2012 23:12

Oh no, sportswear.

workshy · 08/06/2012 23:12

lily is pretty but I get your point and wouldn't use it with your surname

do you have any other names you both like?

LoopyLoopsCorgiPoops · 08/06/2012 23:12

I was thinking Dr Whites

PrisonerOfWaugh · 08/06/2012 23:14

I think it would be too much, sorry.

Lila might work though

chipmonkey · 08/06/2012 23:22

Sorry, I wouldn't. Having said that, ds1 shares a name with a 70's sitcom character and no-one has ever passed any remarks!

StepOutOfSpring · 08/06/2012 23:26

It has too many connotations.

Definitions as follows:

White as a lily.
Beyond reproach; blameless.
Informal. Excluding or seeking to exclude Black people.
Lolalollipop · 09/06/2012 09:56

Excluding black people? You can't choose your surname. I don't get that bit?

Lolalollipop · 09/06/2012 09:56

Also I had same prob. Went for Lola instead and did consider Lilia if that helps Smile

StepOutOfSpring · 09/06/2012 10:34

"Excluding black people? You can't choose your surname. I don't get that bit?"

The definitions are of "Lily White". The OP says she's considering Lily as a first name.

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 09/06/2012 10:37

The nickname of a rival county to me :o so I could never consider it.
I think it does sound a bit silly...though there was a girl in school with me called Holly Bush so obviously other people don't think so :)

CurlyCasper · 09/06/2012 10:43

I have a colour surname too, and decided flowers don't work with colours!

Lolalollipop · 09/06/2012 11:17

Oh right didn't realise that's what lily white meant Blush

PercyFilth · 09/06/2012 13:39

A hundred times no.

ripsishere · 09/06/2012 13:54

Unless you don't want to sew name tapes into her sportswear, I'd give it a miss.

NappiesandGladrags · 09/06/2012 14:53

I agree Lily White...not a good choice!

I must admit in the years during my career i've come across a Snow White and a Mary Lamb (also a Dick Skinner and Willy Rash) although all of these were American i found them somewhat hilarious and thought maybe their parents in hindsight should of chosen something else.....

carolinecordery · 09/06/2012 23:18

Lily is a really pretty name but it is so common now.

PeanutButterCupCake · 09/06/2012 23:54

I wouldn't

Leah? Lexi? Lydia? Lola?

RobinSparkles · 10/06/2012 00:11

They used to call a certain football team "the Lily whites" (they wear white) I'm not sure if they still do.

GnocchiNineDoors · 10/06/2012 00:18

There is a saying whch means "no way" which is "and you can kiss my lily white ass" so for that reason, please dont.
