Hi, any opinions on which you prefer?

Could have Larissa on the birth certificate and have Lara as a nickname or just go for Lara as the full name or use Larissa day to day... any thoughts welcome.

I think I would go Larissa on BC then use Lara (but she may end up being a Rissa/Rissy)

DharmaBumpkin · 04/06/2012 16:24

Lara... Adding the 'issa' makes it sound a bit frilly

Hopandaskip · 04/06/2012 16:24

I like Lara better.

Lunarlyte · 04/06/2012 17:01

Lara gets my vote, too :)

Takver · 04/06/2012 17:04

Lara for me too. (Unless you really like Larissa better.)

LittlePandaBear · 04/06/2012 17:05

I'd have Larissa with Lara for day to day, but then I like frilly as my DD is Marissa Grin

NurseBernard · 04/06/2012 19:08

Lara is a name in its own right so it really comes down to what you prefer. Likewise, Larissa is a bit too frilly for my tastes - Lara is simple, elegant, classic, timeless.

BikeRunSki · 04/06/2012 19:11

I like Lara best too.

IslaValargeone · 04/06/2012 19:14

Another vote for Lara here. Larissa is too faffy.
I don't really think that Larissa would ever be shortened to Lara, I think as underthevalley said, it would end up being Rissa or Rissy.

thereistheball · 05/06/2012 18:52

I like Lara, short for Laroushka

mrsXsweet · 05/06/2012 19:56

Much prefer Lara, it is beautiful. The Larissa I know gets shortened to Larry, which is a bit to ''lax sticks'' for me and not very pretty!

emsyj · 05/06/2012 19:58

I know a Lara and a Larissa and the Larissa I know is much lovelier, both to look at and as a person - so I am utterly biased towards Larissa. I do like the name Lara too though.

I would go with Larissa. The one I know is called Lari or Liss as a nn. She is beautiful and clever and a lovely lovely person bitch.

emsyj · 05/06/2012 19:59

NB 'Lari' pronounced Laaaaah-ree not like Larry. More often 'Liss' though.

HandMadeTail · 05/06/2012 20:01

They are both real names, so go for the one you prefer.

I prefer Lara, FWIW.

ViolaCrayola · 05/06/2012 20:02

Like Lara better.

mistressploppy · 05/06/2012 20:02

I know a little 4yo Larissa, knows as Lara. Best of both worlds, imo. She is half Russian though

emsyj · 05/06/2012 20:07

"I like Lara, short for Laroushka"

Isn't Lara the proper name, and Larissa or Laroushka the diminutive? Confused I thought that's how Russian names worked, isn't the character in Dr Zhivago a Lara that is nn Larissa?

thereistheball · 05/06/2012 20:52

Emsyj - I think you're right, but that's not how it would work on a UK birth certificate.

Matsikula · 05/06/2012 21:33

No, tis the other way round, Larissa is the proper name in Russian and Lara and Larouschka are both diminutives. She was called Larissa Antipova.

I'd be tempted to go for Larissa on the birth certificate, that way she's got options.

love the name by the way! Would be a top choice if I had a girl.

Pixieonthemoor · 06/06/2012 14:23

I've always thought that Lara was the shortened version of Larissa so why not use both if you are torn?

EllenParsons · 07/06/2012 01:28

I would go for just Lara. Love it.

SPsFanjoHarboursDeadCats · 07/06/2012 01:43

My cousin is called Larissa but gets called lissy.

StepOutOfSpring · 07/06/2012 08:25

Larissa, with Lara for short

randomimposter · 07/06/2012 08:58

Lara by far for me.

lucydannygirl · 07/06/2012 10:52

Lara Smile
