Stella?

Baby girl is due in 2 weeks. My husband seems fairly set on Stella, but I don't know - I keep thinking there's something perfect out there. Other discussed possibilities -

Alison
Violet
Daisy

Middle name will be Rose. Already nixed are Clementine (love it, but do NOT love Clem), Delphine (too French with our Frnch surname) and Kirsty (we live in the US, and everyone I've mentioned it to automatically thinks I said Christy - violence would ensue if I had to correct people on a daily basis).

Oh, and since we're in the US, Stella doesn't have the automatic lager association :)

I think Stella is lovely and by far the best of your choices except for Violet which is also nice.
Alison - v dated, can't see the appeal
Daisy - pretty but a bit cutesie

I'd go for Stella - it is cute but feisty and has a lovely meaning.

Love, love, love Violet! Stella and Alison are quite nice. Hate Daisy but I know it is popular.

BuntingBeGone · 03/06/2012 08:21

Stella or Violet both beautiful. Agree that Alison dated and not that into Daisy.

hubbahubster · 03/06/2012 08:23

Would love to use Stella myself but am in the UK :(

Other names that mean star...

Hester
Estella/Estelle
Astrid
Esther
Seren

Anything there?

ButtonBoo · 03/06/2012 09:01

Love it! My friend has a DD called Estelle.

AllRiseForHerVaj · 03/06/2012 09:06

Stella is lovely and much nicer than your other choices.

QueenEdith · 03/06/2012 09:13

Stella is the lager (which is a widespread association, and which in turn is nn'ed 'Wife Beater).

I think Violet and Daisy are lovely, and like Alison.

Or you could just go for Star (I know one in RL, but it's in the middle).

AllRiseForHerVaj · 03/06/2012 09:15

Estrella (Es-Stray-ah) is the Spanish versio of Stella. Also a beer, though.

I dont think of the beer at all when I hear either, though.

beginnersluck · 03/06/2012 09:28

Stella has the best name song I know-by Norman Connors...but maybe that isn't a good enough reason to go for it...

surroundedbyblondes · 03/06/2012 09:32

I'm not in the UK either so I don't think beer! I love Stella

LovelyMarchHare · 03/06/2012 09:35

I really like Stella. I imagine a Stella to be quite arty and edgy. That may not be the image you're after though! The other names are fine too but quite popular (not that there is anything wrong with that).

LovelyMarchHare · 03/06/2012 09:36

Plus there's the character from Local Hero called Stella. Which is a good association too.

ChasedByBees · 03/06/2012 09:40

I love Violet. Stella is quite pretty. Are you looking for other name suggestions or getting opinions on the choices you have already?

WhatWouldJoanJettDo · 03/06/2012 09:44

Lovely, I like arty and edgy! Thanks, all - feeling better about Stella. AllRise, I really like Estrella, but given that I'm Scottish, husband is American and we ha the aforementioned French surname, I think a very Spanish name is just adding to the confusion. My daughter's name is Sadie, so I do think Stella goes well with her name....

Stella makes me think of Stella McCartney - perhaps that's where arty and edgy come from. trendy and cool.

It's a great name. Also like Estella and that would get rid of any lager associations.
