After opinions on Adelaide and Adeline. I really like both but can't seem to decide which I prefer.

Please could you let me know which you prefer and why?
What sort of image do they conjure up to you?

Love both but probably would give Adelaide the edge. It makes me think of Guys And Dolls and old Germanic warrior-queens. Glamorous but fierce.
Adeline could lead to confusion over the pronounciation. I think of Sweet Adeline, the song. When it came up for discussion in our house it got turned down because DH said it reminded him of Aveline from Bread, but if you're not as ancient as us that is unlikely to be an issue.

I wouldn't worry about being ancient hatebeak, I'm 20 and my first thought was also Aveline from Bread!

I'd also say I prefer Adelaide OP :)

Adelaide is beautiful.

I also like Adrienne, which is similar.

hiviolet · 02/06/2012 20:20

Definitely prefer Adelaide Smile

I do remember 'Bread' but wouldn't have been able to tell you the daughter's name.
Do you think that is a common association for Adeline?

Adelaide.

I like Adeline too but it sounds a bit like someone has swallowed the M of Madeline. I think it must depend on your accent whether it is a goer.

I like Adeline, it's my ex-mil's name and I've always liked it

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 02/06/2012 22:23

Adelaine is nice. Adelaide reminds me of my tweenage years and makes me think of the place the cast of neighbours disappeared to every time someones contract was up.

I like Adeline best. There's an Adeline in ds's class who goes by the cute nn Addie.

jubileejane · 03/06/2012 20:21

Thanks for the opinions all!

Adelaide

Adeline is nicer.

BroomForMyChin · 03/06/2012 20:28

Adeline. It's beautiful.

minipie · 05/06/2012 10:44

I prefer Adeline. Adelaide makes me think of the Australian town whereas Adeline is more obviously a person's name iyswim. And I think Adeline sounds nicer too.
