If my dn is called cornelia...

could I have a cordelia, or would this be out of order?

Cornelia goes by Nell, and any future cordelia would probably go by Dee or Delia, so they'd not sound similar. But they'd still be just one letter apart!

What do you think? All completely hypothetical though - not even ttc!

Well, they are very similar ( too much so imo) but if they are always known by different nicknames, then fine.

Flubba · 31/05/2012 13:35

I don't think it matters personally. How close would they likely be? They might well enjoy being the pair "Cordelia & Cornelia". How old is Cornelia and when might you possibly have a Cordelia?

There'd be a gap of at least 3 years I reckon. We actually struck off cordelia from our list for dd, as dn is only 6 weeks older than dd!

But I still love the name, and would love to use it if another dd came along. I guess we probably wouldn't though. As otherside says, they just seem too close...

I'd find it a little odd if I was Cornelia's parent. Not odd enough that I'd make a fuss but odd enough be saying 'Did you hear what untidy called her daughter?'

BikeRunSki · 31/05/2012 14:52

Pah, in my family there are three sets of cousins called Joe and Chris. Christmas cards can be confusing, but nobody cares
.

squoosh · 31/05/2012 14:55

Yeah but Joe and Chris are very ordinary names (no offence to all the Joes and Chris' out there!), Cornelia and Cordelia aren't.

My cousin and I are Emma and Gemma (!) we're about 4 years apart in age, hasn't ever bothered either of us but we NEVER get called the right name at family gatherings.... I reckon if you love the name Cordelia just go for it, the nicknames sound really different anyway (unlike Em & Gem Hmm)

StepOutOfSpring · 31/05/2012 15:39

I know of cousins with the same first name and it doesn't seem to bother anyone, but then it's not an unusual name.

How about Clarissa, Emilia, Anastasia (Annie), Cassia, Coralie?

untidyhouseuntidymind · 31/05/2012 19:18

Thanks all - will doubtless come back here if a dd2 should arise!

My dh family just reuse the same fricking names .... I hate it

Was very very cross when I found out that dd had the same name as his cousins dd .... On principle I wouldn't have had it!
