Our second baby is due very soon and my husband and I are at loggerheads sick to death of names books struggling to find a name we can agree on. We have a VERY English-sounding, three-syllable, starting with a vowel burden of a surname and anything remotely continental, or names ending in ?a?, tend not to work. That?s most of my faves out then! Also has to work with Poppy, and can?t remind me of any of the horrors I?ve taught over the years!
Girls:
So far we both like Elizabeth ? though I would want to shorten to Betty which my husband can?t consider ? he says there is no way he could shout her in the park. I could be swayed to Betsy, but apparently he once knew a Yorkshire Terrier of that name?(see what I?m dealing with?!) He likes Beth, which I also like, but don?t love. Could we call her different nicknames or is this just asking for problems in later life?!
I also like Catherine, with nn Kitty or Kit, and Beatrice (Bea) but he is rather lukewarm. Drat him.
Other names I like which have been downright vetoed, or are already ?taken? (but I might slip in as a middle name) are:
Lotte
Fern
Rosa
Alice
Martha
Grace
To be honest though, I?m not in love with any of them, apart from Lotte and he WILL NOT be swayed.
For boys:
Jude
Barnaby (these are my faves)
Milo
Jack (this is his fave)
(and love Edward (Ted), but impossible!)
With possible mns of
Daniel
James
Eric
George
Could anyone suggest any further possibilities in this vein? I do like a name which can be shortened, I don?t really want another flower name and anything too ?frilly? just doesn?t work. I don?t need him or her to be the only one of the name in town, but I would steer clear of anything toooo popular as I would prefer him or her not to be one of five or six in a class.
Any suggestions would be most gratefully received. My brain is wrecked with it!
