Leo and Raphael... would you think Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?!

Er, namechange as this is rather identifying!

We have a Leo and, if this baby is a boy, I like Raphael. I have one major crazy hormone induced doubt - is it too reminiscent of Teenage Mutant/Ninja Turtles??

I know two of the main ones were called Leonardo (nn Leo) and Raphael, after the painters obviously. What do you think? Am I really over thinking this?

Just don't have another and call him Donatello or Michaelangelo!

wildstrawberryplace · 25/05/2012 17:55

I think Leo and Raphael is totally fine and doesn't make me think TMNT at all.

Turtlemama · 25/05/2012 17:57

Thanks. Feel a bit embarrassed now Blush

I love the name Leo.......

I cannot remember the turtle's names (despite having grown up with a little brother) so doubt anyone else would make that connection.... remember you and only you will ever be thinking that much about the names of your children!

Congratulations.

yellowflowers · 25/05/2012 18:58

I think Leo fine but Leonardo too ninja turtle

akaemmafrost · 25/05/2012 19:06

It wouldn't me.

I have a Leo too. It's my favourite boys name ever and I was desperate to use it but ex was very pernickety about names, so I kept it in reserve till the VERY last minute, when all other options had been exhausted and then threw it casually into the mix. I got my Leo Grin.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 25/05/2012 19:14

Children in the half shell, kiddie power!

Sorry, screams turtles at me, but I remember going to see the original film at the cinema and had the toys Grin

nizlopi · 25/05/2012 19:16

Yes, I would think it. I am thinking it.

Heroes in a half shell.

TURTLE POWER!

Lunarlyte · 25/05/2012 19:27

Sorry, yes, I am thinking of TMNT Confused

Emphaticmaybe · 25/05/2012 19:28

I think they're great names, and ninja turtles was actually quite cool in the original comic form, much cooler than the Jake, Milo and Bella in one family I know - I think the cat was probably Fizz.

Turtlemama · 25/05/2012 19:29

Oh, ok. Not sure what to think now. Guess I would just have to go for it and not care if people started singing that song at me when I introduced my kids!

It's in my head now... 'we're the world's most fearsome fighting...' 'we're heroes in a half shell and we're green'

Not sure if I can do it actually Confused

How about Rafe, instead? Smile

snowshoes · 25/05/2012 22:23

It does make me think of TMNT but I don't see that as a problem. Beautiful names and a great combo!

MerylStrop · 25/05/2012 22:25

yes it is

(lol at your nickname)

If you call him Raffy day-to-day if you might get away with it

Badgerina · 25/05/2012 23:57

Yes! I'm thinking TMNT - do it, it's awesome Grin

Pearla · 26/05/2012 00:22

Yes but it's a good thing, I loved the Turtles, and they had great names! I really wanted to call DS Raphael - Raffy for short - but DH vetoed it. Still, wouldn't have suited him, but still a GREAT name!

LittlePandaBear · 26/05/2012 12:59

Love both names despite TMNT. Would you put Leo in yellow and Raphael in red? (Did I remember the headband colours right?!)

LuvileeJubilee · 26/05/2012 13:01

Love all the turtle names! Do it! People who weren't fans will never think of it and people who were will think you're the coolest family ever.

Bumperlicious · 26/05/2012 13:36

Fleetingly, but I wouldn't dwell on it. Both fab names.

SunshineOutdoors · 26/05/2012 13:39

Rafferty?

SunshineOutdoors · 26/05/2012 13:40

I thought Leonardo was blue and Michaelangelo was yellow.... Going to have to google it now

LittlePandaBear · 26/05/2012 13:43

I think Michaelangelo was orange and Donatello purple! But it's been a while!

badtime · 26/05/2012 14:05

I used to know a set of brothers called Michael, Rafael and Gabriel - pretty obviously Archangels, you might think (the family was of Irish and Latin-American descent, hence the spelling combination).
Nope, people still thought turtles. I think it was just because Raphael/Rafael is quite unusual, and TMNT might be the most obvious reference to some people.

Badgerina · 26/05/2012 17:25

Leonardo was blue and Raphael was red. Leo was the leader, and Raphael was "cool, but rude" apparently (DH has just written a 5,000 word essay on TMNT for his Childrens' Lit MA Grin)
