Timeless girls names

So we're team pink and finding a suitable name is sooo much harder than choosing boys names. I definately want a traditional girls name. So far we have listed:

Catherine nn Kate or maybe Kate on its own?
Annabel
Rosanna
Felicity
Helena
Isobel (too popular?)

Love but can't use as family already has:
Eleanor
Elizabeth

Any feedback or other suggestions welcome

Nice classic choices. I love Rosanna and Helena. I would say re Catherine/Kate that it will become ever more well known as Kate Middleton becomes a princess, and one day queen. May or may not be a prob as far as you're concerned.

My suggestions for what they're worth
Charlotte (lottie)
Marianne/marianna
Alicia
Julia
Lydia
Violet/viola

Happy choosing!

My favourites on your list are helena, catherine, isobel and rosanna.
What about eloise, lucy, josephine, caroline, genevieve, lilian or sarah?
Good luck though i have found girl's names far easier!

Wildwaterfalls · 23/05/2012 21:25

Nice classic names!

What about Alice or Anna? I second the suggestion of Josephine - love it but can't have it myself due to family reasons so will suggest it for everyone else Grin!

twizzlestix · 23/05/2012 22:00

My nn and my actual name are in your list geranium :) my nn isn't a shortening it's more of a family 'pet' name. Scared of Genevieve, think it'd takes ages to learn to spell Grin

We considered Charlotte (both love it) but DH works closely with one and feels it might be a bit odd to name our DD it too.

Alice is lovely but friends have recently used it for their DD.

I like Violet will suggest to DH

I love the name Violet. And also Pandora, although I don't know any.

Shanghaidiva · 23/05/2012 23:34

From your list I love Helena and Isobel.

What about Juliet?

SodoffBaldrick · 24/05/2012 02:36

Great list - my name and my DD's names are on it. Wink

I don't think my name is timeless though - it's very popular right now and it's a very old name, even used by royalty - but it's also very cyclical and comes in and out of fashion. DD's name, being Shakespearean (although that's not why we chose it), is more timeless.

Here is the list I posted on another recent thread on the same subject matter, with a couple of additions. The names won't be to everyone's tastes and they're certainly not popular, but I honestly don't think you'd ever be able to pick the age/generation of anyone with the names...

Merryn
Honor
Louisa
Rosalind
Iona
Miranda
Ingrid
Astrid
Emma
Blythe
Rowan
Briony / Bryony
Celeste
Hope
Simone
Marianne
Aurelia
Cara / Clara
Odette / Odile (maybe look to other ballets and operas for inspiration)
Claudia
Ines
Megan
Gisele
Rebecca
Ellen
Elena
Georgiana
Ida
Elspeth
Henriette...

Thank you for all your suggestions will pass on to DH. He rejected Cecilia, Florence, Beatrice and Martha. They were my first choices but I will sneakily suggest again and see if he remembers vetoing them :)

We can't use the following names as are family/friends names:
Rebecca
Emily
Sophie
Eleanor
Charlotte
Gabriella/Gabrielle
Emily
Anna
Susanna

Also have to avoid 'P' names e.g Phillippa, Penelope etc due to surname.
