I love this name, I know it is relatively unusual so would love to get a feel as to what reactions I may get! It's biblical (I have a ds with a biblical name already), it is what Abraham was called before he changed to Abraham. But I love just Abram and that is what would go on the birth cert!!

Sounds quite stern and puritan. I would assume the child had religious parents.

Having said that, it's quite nice. People will always call him Abraham though.

NormanTheForeman · 22/05/2012 12:51

I have a distant cousin with this name. He is a gay circus artist (just to dispel the puritan/religious ideas).........

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 22/05/2012 12:52

I prefer Abraham TBH.

DottieRose · 22/05/2012 12:56

My son has a name that could be short for something else and has never been called the full name iykwim! So I don't think that I would have the problem of people calling him Abraham which while nice I feel that Abram is a little fresher and more wearable than Abraham! Smile

Much prefer Abraham. All of our dc were nearly Abraham - I just love it. Abram feels as though something is missing.

DottieRose · 22/05/2012 13:31

Tummytickler what did names did you go with instead?....I'm so nosy, and always looking for new name ideas. I do like Abraham but for me Abram feels more modern....if a name from the old testament can ever be modern Confused

That should be what names did you go with instead! Blush

Well, two were girls, and Abraham didn't suit them! The boys are Eli and Amos. I still think Abraham will stay on the list for number 5!

Stellan · 22/05/2012 14:07

I also prefer Abraham.

DottieRose · 22/05/2012 16:43

They are fantastic names tummytickler I especially love Eli Wink

Eli and Amos are truly wonderful names.

Prefer Abraham, but Abe works as a nn for both and that's a brilliant nickname.

MoonHare · 22/05/2012 18:21

Not sure. It does sound a bit Amish. On the other hand I like it better than Abraham, which is just soooo old testament.

Love Amos! How about that instead???

DottieRose · 22/05/2012 18:25

I personally love Amos however when running it by my father who thinks he is soooooooo funny he referred to it sounding like anus!!! That made me a bit wary of it!

I prefer Abraham

I like Eli and Amos as well

What about Asher or (my favourite) Asa

Also Isaac OR Ezra

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 22/05/2012 18:28

or Evan

DottieRose · 22/05/2012 18:30

Asa is really nice and I already have Ezra on the list! Isaac is a bit too popular for me unfortunately! However I do also like Isaiah but is that way to biblical???

OP posts:
JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 22/05/2012 18:33

I like Isaiah as well

Personally, speaking as an atheist, I don't think you can ever go too Old Testament Grin

Glad you like Asa - was vetoed by DH for my two boys (as was Gabriel )

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 22/05/2012 18:33

Ezra is just very very cool, IMO. I know a little Ezra

DottieRose · 22/05/2012 19:08

I think Ezra is really cool also however when I ran it by friends they were like wdf!!!! Izra......oh I'm izra from Israel and started laughing hysterically Angry I don't think they had ever even heard of it!!! It's still on the list though but it was a bit of a knock to my confidence in the name Sad

I absolutely freaking love the name Abram, although I love Abraham too, but I think Abram is a bit more suited to the modern day.

BackforGood · 22/05/2012 19:47

I looked at Abram and instinctively thought "someone's missed the letters out of Abraham" if I'm being honest. I think there will be a lot of confusion over the years.

winkle2 · 22/05/2012 23:26

I agree with backforgood
