Is this name boring?

Ellen? There's something I quite like about it but on the otherhand it does seem rather plain - maybe that's why I like it! Your opinions please!

Other suggestions would be very helpful too. I like two syllable names. Ella is another name I like but it seems unpopular on here.

Ella is lovely. I prefer it to Ellen. I also like Hannah, which is also 'plain' but I really like it. Ella, Bella, Elsie, Esme, all nice names I think.

tummytickler · 19/05/2012 22:05

I love Ellen. I think it is a lovely, sturdy, serious name. Not too fashionable at the moment, but fits in beautifully. Not weird, but not everywhere. Perfectly perfect imo. Not boring at all.
Do not like Ella though, nor Eleanor. Not one bit. Ellas are everywhere for some unfathomable reason.

phunkiephedora · 19/05/2012 22:14

I like Ella and Eleanor :-) DD2 is Eleanor and calls herself Ella. I know it's popular (it wasn't 8 years ago when we chose it!) but she's the only Ella in her school. Ellen is good too, if you feel it's too plain you could jazz it up with a funky middle name.

DottieRose · 19/05/2012 22:17

Ellen is a bit blah though Eleanor is beautiful

soon2bmumof3 · 19/05/2012 22:19

What about Elena?

Lunarlyte · 19/05/2012 22:19

Ellen is a lovely name - it means 'sunbeam'. If you like it, kid, go for it :) Ella is gorgeous, too, and both names can e shortened to the rather funky and cool-for-teen-years Elle :) x

Lexiesgirl · 19/05/2012 22:20

I love Ellen, also Eleanor/Elinor. My two grandmothers middle names were Ellen and May, so I always wanted a little girl called Ellen May. Another family member beat me to it Sad.

You can shorten it to Ella or Ellie if you want to.

winkle2 · 19/05/2012 22:36

Prefer Elena :)

PrisonerOfWaugh · 19/05/2012 22:38

I came on here to say 'Yes' because I'm in that kind of mood.

But, actually Ellen is absolutely lovely and DD would have definitely been Ellen if there wasn't one in the family already. Grin

Jollyb · 19/05/2012 22:49

I really like Elin which is the Welsh and Scandinavian version

PercyFilth · 20/05/2012 10:37

It conjures up an ugly scullery maid for me. OTOH the slightly longer Elena and Eleanor are lovely - strange how something so slight can make such a difference.

ebbandflow · 20/05/2012 10:43

It is not a very feminine name, I think of Ellen Degeneres.

nizlopi · 20/05/2012 11:06

Shocking fact about Ellen Degeneres - She has a vagina like all other women.

pictish · 20/05/2012 11:08

I like Ellen a lot. It's lovely.

I like Ellen Degeneres too - she's fab, and as far as I know actually does have her very own functioning vagina.

Iggly · 20/05/2012 11:10

Ellen is lovely. Strong, feminine and easy to say and spell. Winner!

tiokiko · 20/05/2012 11:14

I love Ellen - I like Ella too but think it's a bit over-used now.

I think Ellen is a god mix of pretty and cool, go for it.

tiokiko · 20/05/2012 11:15

Erk - I mean good mix

ravenlocks · 20/05/2012 11:20

I love Ellen too. Wanted it for DD but DH vetoed (never did give me a good reason!) It makes me think of the young and gorgeous lawyer in Damages.

MarySA · 20/05/2012 11:22

I like Ellen. But prefer Eleanor and Helen. Not so keen on Ella for some reason.

pixiestix · 20/05/2012 11:25

Ellen is lovely. Ella is massively popular round our way.

startail · 20/05/2012 11:26

We have rather a lot of the Ella, Ellie, Ellen type names here.

I'd be very tempted to Eleanor on her birth cert. nn Ellen giving her the freedom to vary it if she turned out not to be the only one.

Our multitude of Isabbelles manage very well and delight in ensuring grown ups give them exactly their prefered Issy, Bell or Izz!

Ellen is beautiful name - how can you say it is boring?!

kickingKcurlyC · 20/05/2012 12:18

I like Ellen. :)

MadameMessy · 20/05/2012 12:26

Ellen is lovely, though very popular here. I think there is one in every class in dds school
