Am I being precious?

Just found out baby number 2 is going to be another boy. Husband really wants George which I don't hate but we already have a Fred & I don't want like having a Fred & George because to me it looks like I'm a Harry Potter fanatic! Do other people immediately see the link or am i bring a bit precious & worrying over nothing.
I should add another reason I'm against George is that hubby is do bloody convinced it's the name we'll have, just makes my stubborn streak come out!

I don't think Fred & George makes you look like a Harry Potter fanatic, especially as they won't be twins.

Calling your sons Harry and Ron would be far more like a Harry Potter fanatic.

MarySA · 10/05/2012 20:01

I didn't notice the Harry Potter connection at all. And I've seen nearly all the films

lancelottie · 10/05/2012 20:04

I'd think of Harry potter too, I must say (and my 13 and 9 yr olds definitely would).
DS currently has 'We're not stupid, we know we're called Gred and Forge' as his Facebook status.

DogEared · 10/05/2012 20:04

I've read all of the books several times and I didn't notice :)

I probably wouldn't have thought of it straight away. Unless you all have red hair.

Hassled · 10/05/2012 20:07

It's a nice name and while yes, I do think lots of people will make the HP connection, they'll soon get past that. The HP thing on its own isn't enough of a reason not to use it - but it should be a shared decision.

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 10/05/2012 20:10

Huge HO fan here and didn't automatically think of it. had they been twins or redheaded ones then yes I probably would have on meeting them though.

Shriekable · 10/05/2012 20:21

I've seen all the HP films and I didn't make the connection. Don't rule out George just to spite DH - I did that to annoy my dad, who was calling my bump one of our chosen names before we had made our final decision. I asked him to stop, he didn't, and it really wound me up. So we went with another name - even though the one he was using was my favourite Sad

Geranium3 · 10/05/2012 20:27

I wouldn't make the connection but tbh i think fred and george are too "samey" together, freddie and george somehow sound different so if i were you, i would hold out against dh for another name, good luck!

I made the connection, but then I always call my twins Fred & George if they're being cheeky.

As they're not twins though I don't think it would be a problem.

SodoffBaldrick · 10/05/2012 21:32

Not much help, but I'm not a HO fan, so didn't see the connection.

welovesausagedogs · 10/05/2012 21:35

I wouldn't even think of the harry potter link - but i do think Fred is a much nicer name than george but that is just my opinion.

What about
Fred and Felix
Fred and Oscar
Fred and Leo
Fred and Edward
Fred and Archie
Fred and Monte
Fred and Percy
Fred and Charlie
Fred and Zack
Fred and Rafferty
Fred and Rufus

MidWeekSlump · 10/05/2012 21:42

Love George and don't see the link at all. (or didn't think of it)

MadameChinLegs · 10/05/2012 21:44

I would notice it. But, I am unhealthily obsessed with HP. The aveage sane woman on the street probably would never notice it.

Scatterplot · 11/05/2012 06:25

I wouldn't have remembered HP even though I read all of the books. I do associate George with designers: George at Asda, Gilbert and George.

pegster · 11/05/2012 11:39

I notice the HP link but it wouldn't bother me or stop me using it for brothers though as others have said not for twins. I have a Fred(erick) who has a little friend called George and it makes me smile when I call them together.

Kaekae · 11/05/2012 12:53

Not an HP fan so wouldn't have known.

Lannie33 · 11/05/2012 17:34

Never made the connection. George is not my fave but i like weird names.

PercyFilth · 11/05/2012 17:50

They are just ordinany names. Not like you were calling them something like Aragorn and Legolas.

NervousAt20 · 11/05/2012 17:55

I did notice the link straight away but wouldn't assume you were a die hard fan Smile

gaunyerseljeannie · 11/05/2012 17:57

Definitely Weasleys

nizlopi · 12/05/2012 19:37

Fred and George rock. I'd totally do it. Weasley twins ftw

Trills · 12/05/2012 19:42

They are both quite normal names.

It's not like calling your children Merry and Pippin.
