we registered dd's birth when she was 2 days old as Cecily Elizabeth .We'd settled on this name about a week before she was born on and thought we were happy with it . By the time she was 3 weeks old we'd realised that our second choice name suited her much better so started to call her that . She is now 7 months old and is her new name and we are to changing her birth cert to include the name she is now known as .

the problem is she is Felicity .

so do we reregister her as

1/ Felicity Cecily Elizabeth which sounds very rhymmey similar to milly molly . dp feels this is a non issue as how often will her name and mn be read out in public .
or
2 do we change her mn to Cecilia which flows better . the problem with this is she has birth cards and a few personalised gifts with Cecily on them . also changing Cecily to Cecilia seems harder to explain to her when she's older , what if she loves Cecily but hates Cecilia ?

Unfortunately as our surname begins with K we can't put Elizabeth between Felicity and Cecily the initials are a non starter .

Felicity Cecilia Elizabeth, definitely.

Felicity and Cecily have a similar rhythmic emphasis, both end in "y" and so sound too similar together. They have a lot of letters in common. The "a" of Cecilia makes a big difference.

See the problem about the birth cards though.

How about Cecily Elizabeth Felicity K, but known as Felicity?

we have considered that option but then we have the dilemma of her always being known by her second mn . we worry that this could cause her alot of administrative problems with banks , work passports etc when she's an adult.

my instinct is to change it to cecilia leaving her the option of using cecily as a nn if she so decides to as an adult and the explain it to her when she's old enough to understand .

Felicity and Cecily are so similar why not drop one - if she's known as Felicity, I'd go for Felicity Elizabeth K or if you're worried about the intials, Elizabeth Felicity K, but known as Felicity. All three names is too much of a mouthful.

DELHI i do not want to remove the name Cecily due to the fact she has various personalised items with this name . i've spoken to people whose parents changed their name as babies and the parents and removed a middle name on the new bc .they tell me that even as adults they still feel a bit miffed and feel they have been "robbed" of part of their identity .

Just go with Felicity Cecily Elizabeth: you obviously liked both Cecily and Felicity so why not include them both in her name? It may not sound quite as eloquent as Felicity Cecilia Elizabeth but I think it has more meaning and, for that reason, ought to be the one you pick.

I would have thought, should the fact her name was changed as an infant cause any confusion in the future, it would help if her new names 'follow from' her old too.

What about Felicity Elizabeth Cecily? Flows much better, and all the names are still in there (with the original form of Cecily).

It's very rare that you say your full name out loud. When/if she gets married no-one will notice Felicity Cecily not flowing, since it will be said very slowly & deliberately & there will be much more important things going on!
Stick with Cecily rather than Cecilia since it has so much more meaning. Use Felicity as her first name. It's so much easier not to have to explain why your first name isn't the name you're known as.

stellan and bagelmonkey thanks you are both very right. we chose cecily over cecilia at the start because we prefered it . it felt more understated iyswim.

i keep going round it circles but just adding felicity and leaving the other 2 as thet are feels like she's just gaining a name rather than having her name altered .

Definitely keep Cecily, it really doesn't matter about the two 'ee' sounding endings.

I have always been known as my middle name, it's never been a problem.

I'd go for Felicity Cecily Elizabeth, your husband is right, all her names will rarely be said together.

I think it sounds fine anyway, and it will be nice to keep the link to the original choice.
