We are considering giving our DC a double barrelled surname as I would like to pass my name on. (We are also considering using my surname as a middle name but that's another thread).

The problem is that the first name I would like to use for DC does not go well with my surname and they could be teased- it doesn't form a word or anything - it just sounds daft if the first name is shortened. The proper, long version sounds fine with my surname.

As a way round this I thought we could double barrell the surname but on a day to day basis just use DH's surname. My surname would just appear on passport etc. Has anyone else given their DC a double barrell name with the intention of using just one? Is it ok to do this?

This naming thing is hard - after a while you start to need an outside opinion! Thanks

Use your surname as middle name.

I think you need to give examples so we can get a sense of what you mean. Or you could just avoid your surname....

I think it'd be better as a middle name. No one really uses a middle name but it's still there iyswim.
