Using DS1's middle name as DS2's name. Thoughts please!

I have a DS who is 16 months and am expecting DS2 in 3 weeks. DS1 is Joseph Edward and my DP and I have always loved his name and decided on it very early on in my pregnancy with him. I am now expecting another DS and while there are names I like, there are none that I have fallen in love with the way I did with Joe's name.

My DP likes Jacob and although I like it, I haven't fallen in love with it. I do love Edward though with Ted / Teddy as a nickname.

I guess I just want some opinions on using DS1's middle name as DS2's first name please! Ideas on other names would also be welcome though! DS2's middle name will be Philip if that helps at all!

Thanks all!

I don't think it's a really terrible thing though it is a bit strange and you'll probably have to explain it a few times to people and your ds's. If you really love the name and no other's then use it.

I wouldn't. I'd give each child their own names.

My DSis's first name is the same as my middle name (I'm older than her). It doesn't bother either of us and it's always made me feel like we're that little bit special, don't know why!

When my DM&D had me, they didn't know they'd have another daughter one day so they gave me their 2 favourite girls names and just considered themselves lucky enough to be able to use my middle name again when DSis arrived.

I was going to do this with DD's middle name but we had a boy! I think it's really nice and a nice way to bond the baby and toddler, giving the baby one of their special names.

I like the idea of it bonding baby and toddler and the fact that it made you and your sister feel special. That's really helped, thank you all!
