Thoughts? Better clarify it's for a girl and not a boy...

Sounds like a nickname - cute for a little girl.

sonniboo · 03/05/2012 22:05

Or a hamster Smile

legoballoon · 03/05/2012 22:06

or a porn star when she is older. It just sounds to cute and girlie for a grown up woman, she'd never be taken seriously.

gingerchick · 03/05/2012 22:11

Fat bird off shameless

DialMforMummy · 03/05/2012 22:15

Nope. Hates it. Feels "unfinished".

It's the name of Hello Kitty's friend. I would not like to be called Mimi. Would you like it at your stage of life? If yes then that's fairly valid. (None of that is meant to sound carcastic but I think it looks like it does. It is a proper question)

Also the name of my neighbour's chicken but I'm pretty sure that won't be a concern!!!

whattodowho · 03/05/2012 22:28

Agree with most of the comments here. Name is not one I would use, but wasn't sure if I was in a minority when I heard this is what my brother has called his baby (they live abroad so not worried they'll see this on mn!)

Must go away and find out how many babies were named Mimi in previous years...

Nah it's a nickname or diminutive of a longer name. And I'm old enough to remember Mimi LaBonque, the very short 'tart' - in her own words - and resistance fighter from Allo Allo. Which will no doubt still be shown on Gold or Dave or whatever when your DD is at school.

Please don't. If you love Mimi then find a longer M name so that you can use Mimi but so that she can find her own way with her name.

LaFataTurchina · 03/05/2012 22:37

I like it!

One of my fave name ideas for any future DD's is Amelia on the birth certificate but Mimi for everyday.

aftereight · 03/05/2012 22:41

I like the name, but Mimi = Hello Kitty's sister (true fact, we have a DVD)
So I'd only use it as a shortened version of e.g. Amelia

fantagrape · 03/05/2012 22:45

Could also be a nickname for Naomi

I like it

welovesausagedogs · 03/05/2012 22:50

Love it, we know a sweet little four year old called Mimi her brother is called Ned. Lovely name, not overused and suitable for an adult and child.

AngelFairy · 04/05/2012 00:04

Nickname for Imogen, right?

PercyFilth · 04/05/2012 00:13

I have no opinion on Mimi, but I just wanted to say that carcastic is a splendid word.

notsohot · 04/05/2012 00:14

I like Mimi. It's cute for a young girl and it's originality encourages a 'kick ass' with kindness feels for grown-ups - not sure about teenage Mimi's - but by then they own the name. There may be some marit it making it a nick name to allow flexibility.
Not wishing to influence your decision but we had a chicken called Mimi - she was very regal

Firawla · 04/05/2012 00:15

I like it as a nickname, my ds2 gets called this as a nickname sometimes. mainly meem but sometimes mimi
Not very 'substantial' as a full name though

SailorVie · 04/05/2012 00:25

It's the diminuitive form of Madeleine. Very cute.

Montsti · 04/05/2012 09:12

Think it's cute as a nn. but I would have a full name I.e. Emilia/Madeleine or something else and then use Mimi as a nn.

I know a Mimi who is 6 months old.

Montsti · 04/05/2012 09:14

To add: it suits a cute little girl and maybe a petite, pretty adult but not sure if would work for a larger teenager/woman..for me it's just one of those names that conjures up images...

Moodykat · 04/05/2012 09:18

My grandma is a Mimi. Well, she's a Margaret actually but DSis couldn't say that! Also, a great friend of mine is Auntie Mimi to my kids as they can't say Jemima.

Montsti · 04/05/2012 09:21

Oh I love Jemima nn. Mimi!
