A middle name for Edie

Hi ladies

I'm posting on behalf of a friend who is set on Edie for her baby girl due in 8 weeks. They love Rose as a middle name but she feels that it's become a bit over used so she's looking for an alternative.

She's quite open minded, but it needs to flow as well as Edie Rose!

TIA

Love Rose but Edie Rose sounds like one name - i.e. it flows a bit too well - so your friend might want to avoid it. I've included some names below that have a similar feel - Edie Kate, Edie May, etc. - which might appeal to your friend but I'd personally go for something longer and more classic to avoid the 'hyphenated name' sound.

Edie Olivia
Edie Kate
Edie Mae/May
Edie Charlotte
Edie Clementine
Edie Grace
Edie Jane
Edie Isabel
Edie Lucinda
Edie Rosalind
Edie Georgina
Edie Stella
Edie Beatrice
Edie Aurelia
Edie Emma
Edie Louise
Edie Alice
Edie June
Edie Florence
Edie Philippa
Edie Fenella

Quite a lot of names go with Edie. Sounds lot like Evie, which is more common, so do a search for 'middle names for Evie' on here or Google and probably most of those will suit!

Really your friend ought to just pick a name she loves or that has special meaning for her as so many fit with the first name.

Edie Rae would be pretty :)

minipie · 03/05/2012 14:18

Edie May
Edie Jean
Edie Ruth
Edie Maya
Edie Mia
Edie Marianne
Edie Miriam
Edie Claire
Edie Serena
Edie Vivienne
Edie Delphine
Edie Madeleine

Edie Pearl or Edie Violet

rockinhippy · 03/05/2012 14:34

It will really depend on your surname, but these are pretty safe with any surname

Edie Rae
Edie Mae
Edie Marie

Isn't Edie a boys' name, short for Edward? Or is only Eddie a boys name?

Stellan · 03/05/2012 14:55

Eddie is the boys' name.

Edie is for girls. It's pronounced like Evie with a D in the middle - ee-dee.

Renee
Grace
Joyce
Rebecca
Faye

Oh god, please not 'Mae'. Mae is the badge of the moron these days.

Fondle has some lovely ones though, I love all of those with Edie

sonniboo · 03/05/2012 15:56

I would have pronounced Edie as Ed-ie (not Eedie) but would of course try to remember the correct pronunciation when told.

Is it short for something - Edith?

rockinhippy · 03/05/2012 16:02

Mae is the badge of the moron these days

Hmm I'd hate to live in your world, the one where you can label small DCs "Moron" based on their nameHmm

& Sonni it is or should be, always pronounced Ee Dee - Ed die would need the double D to sound that way - & it can be short for a few things, Edith included, but its also a name in its own right - we know 2 that are just Edie

nizlopi · 03/05/2012 17:04

Oh no, not the children, the parents. Children are in general morons ;)

gingerchick · 03/05/2012 22:30

Edie Elizabeth

RillaBlythe · 04/05/2012 12:34

It used to be just short for Edith. Now people use it solo, I've also seen it spent Eadie.

abbypumpkin · 04/05/2012 12:43

I don't see a problem with Rose, it seems silly trying to find something that works as well as they obviously love Rose. It may be popular as a middle name but does that really matter? She will have a reasonably uncommon first name and middle names are rarely used.

squoosh · 04/05/2012 12:47

Is Edie a full name? Sounds a bit abrupt.

Sl1nkyMalinki · 05/05/2012 17:14

Thanks so much everyone! She's going to lose the plot with all these names :) so many to choose from! We hadn't considered having a longer classic name and I know she hasn't either.

I'll also search under Evie. Thanks.

Edie I think is short for Edith but is being used as a name in its own right. I don't find it abrupt but each to their own Grin

Thanks again.
