Hi, due in a few weeks and at the moment our favourite names are Emilia and Simona. Was hoping to get some feedback on these names and also maybe some nickname ideas.
I'm not too keen on either nn Millie for Emilia or Mona for Simona but was wondering if there are any others that can be used?

Thanks!!!

I've just commented on another thread that I love emilia. Wink I would use nn emmie. Not too sure about simona but I'm sure someone else will be along soon.

Emilia's not bad. I'm sure the potential for Amelia confusion has already been pointed out - for some reason I think Emilia's a much nicer name, so if you feel the same, that could be annoying. I prefer Simone to Simona.
As for nicknames: Mimi or Emmie for Emilia? Sissy or Mo for Simona, at a stretch?

Nicknames for Simona? Sim, Simi, Simo, Sissi, Mim?

Think Emilia is lovely too but she may have to spend the rest of her life spelling her name as there may be confusion with Emily/Amelia/Emmeline. This shouldn't put you off if you really love the name but its something to take into consideration. Emmie is a lovely nn too but know quite a few around here, seems to be turning into the new Evie.

Simona wouldn't be my choice but then it's not my baby Smile. I prefer Simone. How about Immi for a NN?

Thanks everyone for your opinions and nn suggestions! Some really good ones I hadn't come across!!

I immediately thought Amelia when I saw Emilia, would they be pronounced the same or would Emilia be Emily-ah?

Lulabel27 · 02/05/2012 20:08

I have an Emilia - i think it's a beautiful name but I think she only had about 3 birthday cards with the correct spelling! It doesn't bother me too much but if that kind of thing bothers you then don't. Do. It!

She gets called mimi but nothing else has stuck. Maybe when she can walk and I need to shout her to come back or stop a nickname might automatically appear!

Emilia is OK, it's quite frilly and Italian though. and she will never have it spelled correctly.

Simona's not very nice imo.

Much prefer Simone. With two syllables you don't need to bother with a nickname either as it is manageable on its own.
